Autopsy Round 18, 2018: Hawks pound the blues

The tribunal should throw it out. You can not go around suspending players for actions which are just an instinctive part of football regardless of the outcome. Ridiculous logic. The ways things are going you can tag just about any action as careless. Very subjective.

First highlight from the game on the AFL site is Howe's hit on Cripps....
Did they show cripps' hit on howe to show he was retaliating? Didn't think so.

The afl are shite the way they punish the retaliator and let the perpetrator get away scot free.

Jesus Shoey is a specimen....and he kicks the eyes out of it.

How do we get him to go up a level, injuries notwithstanding?

I just wonder what would have been if he had been developed as a forward when we drafted him rather than the whipping boy defender he got made to be.

Perspective:
- they beat us last year
- they beat us in JLT
- we’re missing 5 of our top 10
- our form is patchy at best
- a lot thought it was a 50-50 contest

If someone said pre game, you’d get a 12 goal win, you’d take it.

Hoping for the same next week.

Dons match is massive. Their fans are already talking it up as their GF. Will be an enormous game. Never forget that they knocked us out of the finals in 09 in the Lloyd v Sewell game.

If they hadn't have knocked us out of the finals race that year, Adelaide certainly would have knocked us out of the finals the following week. IIRC, we would have been lucky to have scraped a side together with all our injuries.

Regardless of patchy form, he's still best 22 in my mind. Very capable of playing his role; esp if it involves slotting a few goals half forward.

As I've said, umpiring usually doesn't bother me, I take the rough with the smooth. Not pleased with the Carlton match though. What DOES annoy the crap out of me is this #freekickHawthorn garbage. Something that originated by imbeciles as a result of us winning 3 games in a row by less than a goal back in 2016, and made popular by idiots wanting to believe it was true because we'd just won 3 flags.

A mate of mine who I believe to be usually fair minded and a good knowledge of football made a comment a few weeks back after he considered his side was hosed by umpires. He said, "It was as bad as every time we play Hawthorn". I asked what he meant, he said "Well, it's a known fact Hawthorn get looked after by the umpires". What can you do when people have this mindset?
I read this article just before I read your post.

Some disturbing truths there.

Just think. Howe has been suspended for more matches than Carlton will win over the next 3 years.

Why 3 years? Should be forever and ever.

When their scoreline read as 0.0.0 I pity them.
When the umpire start performing badly I said okay maybe a mercy rules applied.
When their player start niggling our players I mentioned to the Hawks supporter next to me that Carlton is the new North Melbourne.
Our players will get lots of fines from this game and it's happening :(.

Anyway lots of positive from this game, James Worpel especially :).

I feel like we have taken Shoe for granted.

Playing TOB all those weeks, Shoenmakers comes in and we look instantly better.

I think hes worth another 2 years. He might be more than Handy as rough starts to age.

Would a player from any other team have missed more than 1?

Yes, as I don't subscribe to the anti-Hawthorn conspiracy theories some people have. Having said that I do agree with most that the media can and often do contribute to the outcome with their narrative.
As harsh as Howe's sanctions are for; A. Striking with no apparent injury or after effect to the opposing player and B. An accidental contact of legs resulting in serious injury to the opposing player, the clubs biggest concern now is dealing with the incompetence of our legal representatives.
For not the first time this season there appears to have been little research and preparation undertaken in defending charges against our players.
Consultation and evidence from a medical specialist stating that most 'fractures' occur as a result of the angle of the impact, not the force would of been a good start. Video evidence showing samples of other 'careless' acts that occur regularly in most games, every weekend, but not resulting in injury, would have also have been a reasonable argument.
From what I've read neither of these two 'sample' arguments were put forward at Howe's hearing so it's either laziness and/or incompetence with our legal reps, either way show he/she or them the door...

Whilst I agree with your synopsis deanc you are relying on a panel of ex footballers actually understanding or even giving a toss about what was offered up as a defence. In all seriousness I don’t even know why they bother with the farce of having lawyers when the panel wouldn’t even have the expertise required to interpret the legalese put forward. It would make just as much sense to take along your own ex footballer to present your case in your behalf - could they really be any worse

Howe banned for 5 matches

What was that?

...

Wait

Don't answer

Your opinion isn't worth anything
You relevance to the afl is charming. Wait what's that? Your relevance to this league of professionals it to perform like a country amateur team so that everyone can see how poor they are.

There have been 1361 seasons of afl for all teams in total. Carlton's season ranks 1334th. Of all seasons ever. Think about that. remaining relevant by crowing over a ridiculous decision that had more to do with your uncoordinated player not knowing how to keep his feet than anything Howe did is so very very sad for you. Embarrassingly so. We, the other 17 teams just laugh at carlton. There has only ever been one carlton win over hawthorn celebrated on facebook. There's a nice headline for you. Go put that in huge letters. And stare at it while you slap yourself in the face enjoying your one win. You can probably buy it on name a game for 30 cents.
