Good growth today. Frustrating as it went on, but really good signs.

Positives
  • A little bit of possession game early. We don’t need to go full Simmo, but nobody can’t sprint for four quarters so just massaging the ball around for a bit is a massive string in the bow. Hope we see more of this for short bursts this year.
  • Harry Edwards, growing beautiful. Good for Bazzo to get a return game under his belt, had some moments.
  • Shanahan going to be so good. JWill took the chance, seriously just never drop this bloke for real.
  • We look so much better with McCarthy in possession. Need to find ways to manufacture that, and please never take him off the field for 10 straight minutes again.
  • Harley singled handedly taking on the entire Port midfield. More on this later.
  • Brockman faded late but started so well.
  • Baker, love you.
Negatives
  • Just can’t be that outgunned in the midfield, as we know, and expect to win games. Close to the biggest clearance disparity in history they said. 54-25, can’t do much against that. Hough too quiet, Hewett in bursts, Hall was very good first half but quiet after. Didn’t get the usual few Flynn take it out the ruck clearances. Just asking way too much of Harley and, despite what Roo thinks, he’s not spending his energy on the extra curricular, he’s dealing with taggers and four senior mids leaning on him every two seconds. Mids mids mids at the draft.
  • Bailey Williams just so poor. Can’t go in that tall on a slick night and have a ruck/KPF offer quite so little. Weak as piss in the air.
  • Too reliant on McCarthy by foot off HBF. If Baker is forward, and we’re asking Ginbey to lock down, there’s absolutely nobody else to create.
  • Owies had some creative moments in our early scoring chains but very quiet. Had to play after his WAFL outing but meh. And yet offered much more than Cripps. Really poor by these two.
  • We were hanging on for dear life anyway but lol at the umps getting sucked in to half that stuff. Ducks, invented frees, too scared to pay 50s for stuff Baker was getting reported for earlier in the year. Nice for the Port fans to have a fun day release at least. Plenty of lip from some of the most forgettable footballers you’ll ever see.
  • Ricciuto. What a miserable campaigner. I thought Pav was bad, give me his dulcet tones any day. Not sure there’s anything about football he actually enjoys.
Another offseason in the gameplan and in the tank to come. The last few months have shown that the turnaround is going to be much quicker than people realise.

Biggest positive: Harley telling JHF he ran home to mummy after 1 year.

I Love It Chefs Kiss GIF by Magic: The Gathering

The ****ing umpires helping port in the last quarter was pathetic, harley gets ma handled scragged slung after every kick and no down field free ever, held and every stoppage, hell hutchinson got punched in the head no 50. our guys get umpired differently. we must demand an explanation from the AFL via the club

Pos:
We were slick and efficient early, got scoreboard pressure on them.
Harley was good when you look at the possessions but they did look for him a lot more.
J Williams solid
Shanahan - glimpses, but definitely quality
Baker was fantastic early on esp ground balls
H Edwards - Elite intercepting, very very happy with how he has developed - eat shit Simmo
Ginbey excellent just so reliable
Hutch kept trying
Malakai was good in patches - can def see the potential
Dewar was good I thought

Neg
Need more out of Hough (Was he tagging?), Hewitt, Hall
what happened to Brockman (and Ryan earlier) rolling through the midfield?
Hutch was a momentum killer
Cripps horrible
Flynn apart from that Goal didn't do much

Maric invisible after half time
Bailey Williams a total waste of space after the first goal

Edwards was really good again, and Harley, yet again was best on afield for us. Want to keep seeing that passion and do not want to lose him.

Negatives, we could not maintain it for 4 quarters. Should have scalped that one

The first quarter was pure silk and it started to wear off in the second and by the second half it was the complete opposite. We went from being ultra clean on the ground to a hot fumbling mess. His stats flatter him. Not only did he fumble a millions times but he also had multiple times where he got his hand in the way an knocked it away from one our boys picking it up.

We lost to the best side in the bottom 7. And they were humble about it. Well done port power. Congrats Horne Francis on winning the brad ebert medal... keep your tongue in your mouth butters, you're better than that.
I'm dirty, but whatever. We were Gracious enough in defeat.

Agree generally, I thought Maric kept working up the wing to offer targets.
As soon as it was wet we fumbled, their pressure went up and we became reactive. Their outside game started to cut us up. Dockers will be a challenge.

Just draft the best mids. Ginbey was schooled as a defender but kept working to initiate movement, Hewitt was fumbly after the first Q as examples of kids with a few games. Kicking inside 50 became putrid for 3 quarters - partly because our forwards went into their shell and because our midfield was belted. Keep Harley. Draft the best mids.

Positive is that we were gutsy and competed to the last although beaten in most positions late.

Fat Rioli did nothing was a positive but a negative we didn't exploit. (Do you get 4 weeks for body shaming?)

We are a confounding team. We play 100% better on the road than we bloody do at home. Imagine if they actually played that way in front of a 95% pro Eagles crowd, they'd have a couple more wins.
Be interesting when Richmond kick the first 4 next week 😬

Negative: JHF is unconcussed and has no broken bones in his face.

Not much else to say except poor ****ing Andrew Mcqualter.

Other than seeing the footy gods methodically draw a line through every star player in the list, he's seen his team ahead against Brisbane (+30pts) Essendon (+30pts) Melbourne (+10pts in the third quarter) Richmond (+8pts in the third quarter) St Kilda, North (+18pts in the last quarter), Collingwood (+8pts in the 3rd quarter), and Port (+24pts).

The teams record in those games where they've had meaningful leads? 1-7.

Gross should’ve played instead of BWilliams. Flynn is just a walking L for us. He’s just a plan and simply liability. Getting belted by Gawn, Xerri and others I get. But Jordan Sweet… Wow, bloody wee. We need better players all-round to lift the floor instead of the ceiling. Too many, too often floating in and out of games. Should’ve kept Malakai in the game and subbed Billiams.
