Oh he can definitely call him out, but the way in which he responded is exactly what the bloke wanted. Just completely falling into it. There are other ways to call this out, including how he did yesterday by posting the messages he received.

Watched many reserves games in 1991, plenty of talent in the team pushing for senior selection. Willie was not one of them - FACT.

This is Ken Hinkley cookery masterclass. He’s at the end of the road with no silverware as player and coach and cannot handle a young hawk team and young hawk coach on the rise and surpassing him with wind burn. That I think is the narrative to all this Port vengeance and headphuckerry toward the Hawks.

Not enough has been made of this battle imo.

Sweet has done this for a long time and gets away with it far often than he should.
In the second half when they started pinging him for it he went from being the dominant force on the field to being very manageable.

First game against them last year I remember him crossing the circle to knee Meek in the thigh which took him out of the game then.

He went hard a Lloyd with the knee Sunday night too. I like it in the sense Meek now needs to develop further against these tactics.

Lots of bad decision making. Why the Hawthorn players let their opposition players mark them so closely is weird. Yet when Port had the ball their players were running to make space all over the place. Our players were not breaking to make space. No running into gaps offering leads and when they did the stupid player with the ball didnt honor the lead. Rather they would just boot it high down the line ( and even in our glory days we were never a boot it down the line kind of team) and turn the ball over. Mackenzie might get a lot of the ball but has anyone actually watched what he does with his kicks? A lot of them don't hit leads - he kicks it too high allowing opposition teams to get a hand in to smother. HE ALSO KICKS IT OUT OF BOUNDS A LOT. I like him a lot better when he twists and turns and does a handball to someone else in space. There were a lot of silly kick outs from defence. Straight back to Port players when we had players breaking. I just felt it wasnt our night, too many players over cooking kicks and not hitting targets. Watching Hawthorn play fir 40 years I always aid we always look better when we play keepings off. Just kick it around a bit more one or two more kicks to free up someone else in space ad then move forward. No need to just boot it down the line

Chiefy’s anecdote was meant in good fun, there was no malicious, or other connotations in it I’m sure, but in this era of heightened sensitivities, especially when race is involved, perhaps he could have left out the player’s name.
I’m still scratching my head about the Port game, was it just one of those things, move on and learn or something else.
We were on the back foot from the start, but once they got a run on, we seemed powerless to stop it.
Massive fan of Sammy’s but we just seemed too slow, too late to react. We were shell shocked. Why not lock down Butters, Rozee or JHF early, those guys always smash us. Finn imo should have been sent to one of those guys in the first quarter.
Lots of questions but we will see what the response is against Geelong, they’re the other side of course who seem to have our measure. And Sammy’s.

I would not be too worried.

1. Back after a bye - this is a problem for a lot of teams. Byes suck
2. Port have Hawthorns measure. I think this is a combination of two things;
   1. Adelaide oval is a narrow ground and easier to defend against hard running teams.
   2. Port love to play Hawthorn man on man and Hawthorn do not like it.

If Geelong smack us then I'll worry. I expect a response this week.
