Round 7: Changes Vs Adelaide Crows

In my mind Blakely is best 22. I want him in. My prefered player management for him is to put him at Peel and ask him to give me 50% game time in the middle at full bore, then rest him, or drop him to a HBF. If at training he is showing that he isn't having a bar of that and wants in this week, i would consider my options, but it wouldn't be for Conca. I really don't know who it would be for tbh, and I will delegate that decision to.... Lyon.

Toughest call this week.

Blakley in for whoever is sore and needs a break.

I’d consider resting Cerra or Brayshaw.

The big bodies of Adelaide need another mature body in.

Both the young guys have played 6 weeks, give one a break this week the other next. To freshen up.

See where the cards lie in three week.

The other question is when does Darcey come in???

I'd be happy to see Darcy and Blakely in.

No idea who I'd "manage". But, if I absolutely had to make a choice, Nyhuis was last in and Blakely can play back, so i'd feel like a sh*t but he'd get a run at Peel. I though Nyhuis was good, but you can only play 22.

Then - Darcy into the ruck, Lobb For/Ruck which squeezed out Taberner. He's been in good nick, but, again, I can only pick 22.

This is getting difficult... which is rare.

Agree with this, probably Brayshaw out this week as a rotation, Cerra next week, then one of the other youngsters or on form.

Brayshaw and Cerra will not be sent out to the paddock. They need all the time they can get out on the field. It is their second season. They are now seasoned players even though they have played less than 50 games.Players like that DON'T get spelled.

I wish we had an obvious out for Blakely, i mean its a good thing to have competition for spots but I just dont know who they will bring out as we need a big body in the for the Crows

This debate is music to the ears. Last year we were scratching our heads at how Sutcliffe, Sheridan and Ballas were getting games (and dreading D Pearce getting a few games) - now we can't work out who to drop for a returning Top 10 player.

For what it's worth, I think Conca and Colyer can take as much credit for our start as Hogan/Lobb. They (along with Switta) have got our pressure game back to where it was 3-4 years ago. On several occasions the boundary commentator has talked about how well we are structuring up when we lose possession. I've only managed to get to the Saints game this year, but Conca is doing so much directing traffic from a deep midfield position. Colyer and Switta are doing so much chasing - just re-watch the first 10 minutes of Q4 from Saturday. Both of them put in tackles that directly led to goals and Colyer closed down Gowers so quickly that he forced the error when he was clear on goal.

I'm inclined to have Blakely do another turn in the WAFL and then bring him back in for Richmond. I'd then manage Brayshaw and Cerra for the four weeks to the bye, having them miss a couple each. Only because they were totally cooked by R18 last year but we had to keep playing them.

No Changes

Duman first Emergency
We are in a good position now to give Blakely another week in WAFL to build up ! Rather than put him underdone so to speak.

I agree with this 100%. I think Conca's leadership is very valuable to the team at the moment - and Colyer is getting better each week and provides very important pace and spread.

I think we have to maintain reward for effort across the team and keep to no changes. Blakely can continue building in the WAFL for one more week.

Blakely has done his apprenticeship early in his career with plenty of time in the two's is a gun and deserves to come straight back in
Brayshaw is prime for being managed and could do with some time to get his confidence back (seems reluctant to kick the ball for fear of a clanger)
No brainer to me

Blakely should not come in till he has 100% proved his fitness for Peel. after 8 week hammy i'd give him at least 2-3 games for Peel. I'm sure a spot will open up over next few weeks, but not too many putting their hand up with poor performances over last couple of weeks.

It's a weird one really. He's our 2nd best mid and if he played at Peel, he should be fit enough/healthy enough to play for Freo. Apparently struggled in the first half (to be expected after not playing for a huge length) but got back to normal in the 2nd. Can't see why we wouldn't have him in, but can't see who to drop. Cerra for mine is struggling, he's started a few games well but runs out of puff and looks like hes dying trying to chase his opponent back to goals half the time - he very well could need a break. Tucker Im a HUGE fan of, he's silky clean, tackles and works both ways ... but there's no denying Blakely's an upgrade. Conca is an extra hard body and experienced head, I get the feeling he helps with the defensive structures more than he's given credit for. Colyer's probably the weakest link, but they're not exactly like for like (Might let a sore Walters get on the outside a bit more though) and Brayshaw looks like he's just starting to put the forward role together (slowly). Wilson's first real good game was this week, so by body of work he's probably least deserving, but he just played a beauty and we need him when he's up and about (Could Nyhuis's inclusion have helped him get off the chain more?).

Everybody's played a role, for me I'd be keen on resting a few boys that'll need a break at some point and rotate them through. That'd include:
Cerra, Brayshaw, Switowski (Hasn't played to much footy in the past couple years and surely feels it), Mundy, Walters (If sore like stated).
I'd start with Cerra.

Which one of Mundy or Fyfe do you think he is better than?

Basically we need to back Fyfe and Mundy to take on and beat Sloane and two Crouches. Our next biggest inside mid would be Tucker / Brayshaw. Blakeley gives us some size, but we need a fit and firing Blakeley. We’ve rushed players in similar situations before. Another week is not the end of the world.
