Historians will rack their brains for decades wondering how it seems never to have occurred to Scott Morrison - clearly an intelligent man - that there is far, far more expected of a nation’s leader than merely gaining power.
Sadly once you are in power you only answer to your party untill an election and can do what you want .

Question is - will the ABC carry it live?

The simplistic line will be put by some that if Spotify is forced to deleted Rogan podcasts for spreading misinformation, surely the ABC has the same obligation to their viewers?

My belief is of course they should - and make sure their very best interviewers and health experts are there to shine a spotlight on this fraud for all to see.

This guy has spent and will be spending tens of millions to try and influence the outcome of the Australian Federal election to suit his personal interests. He deserves to get the hardest grilling of any of the political leaders attending the NPC.

My only concern is that the beneficiaries of his spending largess, NewsCorp and Nine media, will go soft on him.

Slommo will out talk albo.
Unfortunately for Labor they can't afford for albo to be in a debate on live television.
He just can't make points that entice the Joe blow average to change.
Slommo is to fast on his feet in the lying game.
Albo makes great points but they are boring to the ordinary and only understood by the welded ons.

Labor need Jostling Jimmy Chalmers at the top.
They are just to scared to make the obvious change.

Scomo is pure preacher man. All the tricks. It’s so plain to see. But if the character is discredited in the viewers mind, it’s like 60 mins debacle, is just pitiful

I hope they are charging him a motzah to do this

The NPC has been fantastic this year with some amazing guests and I honestly think this will also be great viewing, because the journos will be lining up to eviscerate him.

Have you seen some of the dumb shit he's said at the defamation trial against McGown? It will be on that level but broadcast live to a national audience. Blood in the water, good stuff.

Growing up in Frankston in the 80s and 90s, it was a sea of white (cultural diversity was the kid from the UK who migrated here), and there was a strong undercurrent of racism towards Aboriginals, brown people, and Asians.
In Mary Kathleen (mining town near Mt Isa in Qld) in 1975, uteloads of single/bored/drunk mine workers would head bush on the weekends to hunt and bash "the boongs." When my parents and I went to the seaside resort of Karumba one weekend, they were threatened with being kicked out of the hotel because I'd been seen playing with a local Kuthant boy.

Growing up in Frankston in the 70s brings up this post I made a year ago in another thread:

In Form 2 (year 8) we had a Chinese kid in our class. He was introduced to me as Ching and thats the only name I ever heard him called, even by teachers. I bumped into him and his mum at the Bayside one night, "Gidday, Ching!" I'll never forget the look on his mum's face as she turned to him and said, "Peter, do you know this boy?" Carrying the shame to this day.

But Australia isn't a racist country!

--
Then I moved to South Auckland and went to school as part of the white minority. I very quickly found out about how racist Australia really was compared to NZ, and what it was like to be on the receiving end of racism. I love Raros (Cook Islanders) and Maori and Niueans, get on fine with Samoans, tolerate Fijians and would rather forget that Tongans exist.

It was instructive moving back to Australia in 2000 and seeing the old attitudes toned down a bit but still alive and well. Australia isn't a racist country! Yeah, try that shit in NZ mate and see how far you get.

Pretty much the first mate I made when we moved to Adelaide was a kid whose parent's came from Brunei, he was about the only Asian kid at my school but there was an old spinster who lived up the road and was proudly in possession of all the prejudices that you would expect from a seventy something spinster in the early eighties and she actually "warned" my mother that my brother and I had been knocking about with him.

Exactly.
Over the divide, is like a drive to the 60's.

I was manager of a place a few years ago. One night, i was called in, due to staff shortages. One casual staff member, was bitching about blackfellas, getting more than they did.yada yada yada.
The staff member was nasty. They were not alone, there were no First Nations staff employed prior to me working there.
They wondered why as a casual, they got no more shifts.....

Going to be a genuine shit show, Fatty Mc****head can't handle any form of criticism least his gelatinous blob form crumble under the pressure. Can see him ranting about fake news as soon as he's questioned.

Hopefully the journalists there don't let him get away with all the shit he's spouted off about. Off the top of my head you've got his recent comments about McGowan, his anti-China rhetoric in order to get out of businesses deals, not paying his workers, gross misinformation about Covid-19, just straight up lies about Labor and buying an election.

As grey has Albo is (most of the time), he would destroy Scomo who cant even spin properly. Changing leadership would be stupid for the ALP especially when parts of the party are starting to open attack lines for the LNP to exploit (not serious enough issues to save the LNP from a well deserved defeat).

Firstly, I don't think these election debates are overly important in swinging votes. Only politically engaged people tend to watch them and they've already made their minds up.

Second, I think you're over-estimating Morrison's ability as a public speaker. I know he's self-assured liar, but he's actually very inarticulate. The amount of times I've seen him stumble over and mispronounce easy, scripted words. And then any time his narrative is questioned, he either goes to water or else goes completely feral. You note that Albo is a bit ''boring'' but I'm confident that Morrison's loud emptiness isn't going to move the needle in his direction much either.

Albo does not need to 'win the election'' in any debates, he just needs to concentrate on a few major policies Labor will focus on/do differently and absolutely hammer Morrison for his failures. He's more than capable of doing that. Whilst I also wouldnt mind something younger, perhaps a bit more charismatic in the ALP leader seat, Albo has proven to be fairly unflappable and largely on point. My confidence in his ability to hold his own in this election is growing.
You may have missed my point
I too think Alp will win election.
I also think slommo is abhorrently poor.
I just think in a debate on telly that Albo will come of 2nd best.

Also here in aus we never forget the twin towers but the Bali bombing? Not so much
This would seem a free kick fifteen out and straight in front for a government in need of some good press.

…..until there was not much left to sell off. Didn’t the future fund get busted for investing in brothels overseas?

Could she be our one and only?

And a misrepresenting of ABS stats that Joe Hildebrand is running with too:

The ABS publication (linked below) that both Hildebrand and Panahi are using as the basis for their stories says this up front on Page 1 of its summary:

'The data also confirmed the majority of the COVID-19 deaths recorded in Australia have actually been caused by the virus - rather than the person having died of other causes while having COVID-19'

And yet that statement and the implications that flow from it, is totally ignored.

Murdoch media running with multiple 'Kwality' sources of crap journalism.

Not with Richo at the helm.

Assuming PVO's leaker isn't Dutton (but is obviously someone in the inner sanctum who wants to damage Morrison), I'd be interested to see what else he's sitting on and probably ready to unload when the election is called.

PVO clearly can't stand Morrison and Scotty's probably given the leakers a fair bit of ammo over the past few weeks to expose his lies and hypocrisy when it will cause maximum damage.

Shorten was at least on par with ScoMo during the debates they held, but that ultimately didn't matter.

I just don't think enough people watch them anymore.

I think you’re right. Morrison and co can’t govern, but if there’s one thing they can do it’s go on the attack in an election campaign. They slaughter Albo from every angle. Albo’s trying to do what Shorten did and try to be a statesman, but that doesn’t work anymore.

Albo needs to pull a Biden and tell Morrison “why don’t you just shut the hell up”

I think it would be similar to question time recently with Morrison flapping his arms, ranting and raving and Albanese measured, bemused, with a 'can you believe this guy?' air about him. Though people would probably then read about a rampaging ScoMo on the front foot in the Murdoch media the following day. Whether there were any facts or sense coming from his side may just be irrelevant.
