Nah unfortunately Albo is buying into the “can’t show disunity in a time of crisis” message. He won’t criticise anything Morrison does or says, Russia or China.

He wants to criticise him on domestic issues, but Morrison and the media will ensure they get buried in this campaign.

They can try, but neither the media nor ScoMo are trusted enough to really make it work, ScoMo is too gaffe prone and isn't a natural statesman, and you can't use a war to bury domestic issues if said war is all over bar the shouting.

That's assuming that Australians see Russia as a potential existential threat in the first place. The 65+ crowd might, but COVID will remain a lingering nuisance, and high petrol prices will annoy Australians as a whole, even though I expect them to ease come by election time.

I know you're worried about ScoMo winning, and he might retain enough seats to form government, but as much as I try, I just can't see a 9/11 moment here.

You know what... I'm gonna stick up for Bruce here for the first time in my life and I hate Abbott

I think Abbott's "sh*t happens"... he was trying to dumb down to their language but it was just so poorly done

I understood what he was going for
What he was going for was trying to be one of the boys, in pursuing his destiny - to be Prime Minister. That was his agenda on the day, which led to the poor choice of words.

WTF was he thinking! He was a pen pusher, who entered the workforce in his late twenties - he makes a mistake he gets a paper cut - he was not one of the boys, certainly not around army personnel (maybe Young Liberals).

If he was doing his job, in representing his constituents, his ‘minimal response‘ would have been appropriately empathetic.

Even more insensitively, his office imposed themselves on the widow months later, after the FOI request was finally granted (the reporter hearing of several comrades being appalled by the comments). “I thoroughly discussed the Channel Seven report with her and don't believe there are any issues between us. That's where this matter should now rest."

So months later, he foisted himself upon a still grieving widow, to try and save his arse - as his sister said “It has always been all about Tony.”

Albo doesn’t need to politicise this - he just needs Scott to keep talking and at some point he will fu** it up the same way his f’ed everything else up
interesting .... the preacher man does like the sound of his own voice ..... and has regularly found himself in trouble when ad-libbing under pressure (the sam maiden work harassment claim springs to mind) - a reminder: he hates live to air interviews (certainly for tv ..... he may be more relaxed with radio)

silence would be a calculated bet on behalf of albo's team this close to an election ..... that said, probably not the dumbest move

[edit] interesting SA newspoll overnight - the preacher man is probably quietly happy with the result

She spoke about our great partners.
Japan and Korea.
Usa , England, and Canada
Etc etc.
But not one reporter asked about our new big 4 partner India.

India's relationship with Russia has to come into question with regards to the Quad.

India's relationship with Russia has to come into question with regards to the Quad.
That was the gist of my post.
Another poser this current Australian government won't answer.
Can we please get a reporter to ask the right questions.
By the way, today is international welders day.
Happy birthday slommo

And this is why Albo doesn’t have to say anything. Scott calling out China who has actually suggested Russia take a step back but not India who have offered Russia a pathway to bypass sanctions

Caught between a rock and a hard place now. He certainly can’t afford to upset India again - he did that with the travel ban and he certainly won’t want to get the community offside

He’s not going to criticise him on day 1 but there’s room to criticise him. There was a need for ‘unity’ in a pandemic but there were still enough heck-ups from the government to call them to account.

Not really. I’m not Abbott, so I wouldn’t have (baboon experience aside). But Abbott does have some capacity in the ring. Maybe not golden gloves, but undoubtedly enough for that particular journo weasel.
Tones would snap most of the pencil necks on here in half!

What do you expect? The Quad are Johnny-come-latelys with India. The Soviet Union backed them for decades while America armed their mortal enemy, Pakistan. People's memories aren't that short.

The troubling thing is that this has been normalised in the last three years.
Not a huge surprise, we have single digit IQ citizens who love the coalition giving away public money to billionaires because it "pwns da lehft"

Then the same single digit IQ citizens bang on about "de elyte!!" "Intanashional bankas!!" and "kabals!!"
