I'd rather use a Mcveigh to lure a player from another club then a 'young untried promising player.'

And as for loyalty, well if we want to win another priemiership we have to address the issues in our midflied and backline and that can only come from a change in personnel. If we don't make the right decisions, then we can kiss goodbye to 2008

If loyalty is not an issue, then we should be looking to offload the some of the 28 yr old brigade to solve our problems, not looking at the 22-25 players. I really doubt that we'll fetch much for the likes of McVeigh or Demspter. If loyalty is out of the equation, my top candidate is Jude - he's on a downhill spiral, is obviously struggling with his hands (he used to be a superb mark for his size) but would still be valuable especially to young teams that needs hardness and leadership in the middle - say Richmond or Carlton, maybe even even Melbourne (if McLean is injury-prone). But again, we wouldn't get good value from him, maybe a third round and a second round if we're lucky.

But I don't see that we'll get any better offers for the 'younger' brigade that's more than valuable in our future transition beyond 2009 then the likes of Fosdike, Matthews, Crouch etc. But Bolton has been very loyal to us and in my mind, shouldn't trade him. But nor should we with McVeigh or Demspter, simply because we're not going to get anything useful in return, nor does it solve our ageing problem.

Buchanan is probably the only one with trade value, but he's far too valuable for us and we will not recoup anything close to his value to us (especially after a down season).

you nailed it. The dilemma that we face is how we can offload ordinary players to other clubs that lack the interest in the first place.

Would Prismall alone be enough for you to trade Buchanan? I honestly think Pris will be a very good player, a genuine midfielder will great skills, trouble is he is competing with an number of similar-bodied and more experienced players in Bartel, Ablett, Corey, Enright, Ling, Chapman, Rooke etc. If Buchanan came to Geelong I doubt he'd play in the midfield much, more of a forwward pocket role. Whereas Pris would be an asset in Sydney's midfield for years to come.

Given that Buchs is more proven than Prismall, that's still a reasonable trade for both clubs. I'd like to think Buchanan can get back to his 05/06 form though, he's only 24 i think, and i hope we hang onto him.

Totally agree with that, if we are to trade Buchanan, the best return we can get for him is probably Prismall and it's a trade that can work out for both the teams. But ideally, I hope Buchanan stays bt he had proven to us what a creative player he could be, I have no doubts that his performances had been dampen by niggling muscle injuries (I'm probably sure he missed a few games earlier in the season). I hope he stays.

I am suggesting that I don't think McVeigh would attract a lot of interest.

Secondly it is remarkable that such a bland group of midfielders cohesively gel in the odd, almost unique, gameplan and compete and are respected by all clubs for what they do!

I think the next wave of youngsters still a few years away with perhaps a quality trade injection will be the only way the midfield and gameplan will be eventually reshaped. No good taking part components out

If Hall, Tadgh, and Goodesy (1st half) had not been injured or down on form and a few close results went our way.... then Swans would have been much more worthy top 4 than many that stumbled in there !

I reckon they synergy of the current group despite their shortcomings if luck is on their side still can give it a good crack in 08, the worry is whether Leo and Bolts and LRT can handle the powerful forwardline sides

w***er!! :D

with the good reports on currie, it's possibly worth thinking of risking going with spida and currie (and shaw), and trading jolly but ONLY if we get a real good deal on jolly
but would a straight swap, jolly for say travis johnstone or brad miller, be worth it?
for miller, maybe....for johnstone i think i'd want a low draft pick too
???????????????????????????

You were the one that got on my case about how important Jolly was and back here you were saying we could trade him WTF?

read all my posts carefully, you little imbecile....fck me, it's NOT rocket science
i haven't contradicted myself on this or any other post, it's just extremely frustrating debating an issue with someone possessing a goldfish memory

as j-swan says, agree to disagree, but you're not actually arguing anything when you post a series of heckin'g question marks and punctuate other aimless posts with schoolkid text message abbreviations
