I've always thought the crowd figures at Adelaide home games have been dodgy but, if there were 41,500 people at today's match with all those obviously empty seats, then our crowds for the season have been downgraded by 3,000 to 4,000.

I wonder whether we will see an article by M Rucci as to why so many Port supporters decided not to attend the game today as the majority of non-attendees must have been Power supporters. It would have been pointless for Crows supporters to buy tickets then not attend. I'm not holding my breath

i think that your just trying to stab at us, taking focus off what happened during the match itself.
it was noted before the match, that crows supporters refused to turn up out of lack of confidence. but the game was a spectacle,who wouldn't want to go?

You can't be serious. The match finishes at 3.15pm and even if you lived at Mt Gambier (which is probably the furthest large town with the exception of Port Lincoln) you'd be back by 9.00pm.

The argument of footy finals is also a non-event coz only half the sides would be involved with finals, what happens to those that aren't in finals.

It was a Port home match so all their season ticket holders were able to attend as they had already paid.

For Crows supporters, other than Cat 1 SANFL members, tickets had to be bought in the previous 10 days and I presumed, maybe stupidly, that people would not buy tickets within 10 days of an event and not attend, especially at the prices charged.

Consequently, it would seem that most of the non-attendees would have been Port season ticket holders. However, I'm sure the Crows supporters will get the blame for the poor crowd.

The reason for the focus on the crowd was in response to M Rucci's obsession with the crowd throughout the week. The match focus is in other threads.

I don't think any one team is to blame. And judging by the crowd, Port season ticket holders were present.

A combination of both. There is no way you can 'guess' which supporters didnt show up. There is as much validity in me saying all Power season ticket holders rocked up, and many crows supporters chose not to purchase tickets.
That's probably not true though, I have no way of telling.

You seem to be unable to comprehend my thinking. It's not about Crows people not choosing to buy tickets. It's about the people who did have tickets but didn't attend.

Although I heard nearly all tickets were sold eventually, let's say 1000 tickets were unsold. That meant about 51,000 tickets had been sold for the game comprising the already sold Port season tickets and SANFL members who could attend plus people who bought the remaining tickets in the last 10 days.

It would seem silly for those people who bought tickets in the last 10 days to outlay cash then not attend so it is a reasonable assumption that the non-attenders came from Port Season ticket holders ( in the outer) and SANFL members, which may have involved both Crows and Port supporters.

In my humble estimation, I would think that a good majority of the non-attenders were thus Port supporters.

Who knows? I went ... but I know a few Crows supporters who didn't go because they didn't want to pay over the odds for a ticket and the result of the match didn't mean a whole lot in terms of the rest of the season.

Port has, for some reason or other, struggled as far as home-match attendances go this season. I think yesterday's match brought their average for the 11 home games to around 27,000. I'm not sure how that compares to other years, but I wouldn't think it'd be too favourable.

1) couldn't be arsed paying for tickets
2) didn;t want to spend 2 hrs sitting near a bunch of toothless idiots talking about Bickley being a snipe
3) I only went cause I am a category 1 member (alomst left at 1/4 time knew we stuffed it up already)
4) by purchasing a ticket you are supporting Port Power - so why would you want to do that ?

Actually Cappy buying a ticket is not actually supporting the power. The general admission tickets from every game all go into a pool and are distributed equally amongst all the clubs at the end of the year. The only way to actually support the power is to buy their season ticket.

oh and on your point 2 - the guy behind me was talking about if our thug was out there the fights would have been started after the Bassett incident. The thug was Roo aparently! This from the group that were yelling at Hentschel that he was soft and had dropped his handbag and needed to get up after he had hurt his knee, and then were calling Ebert soft from falling down after his collision with Bassett

Wrong. This was changed two years ago. The home team get's general admission sales as well. The only exception are blockbuster games ie ANZAC Day where a percentage is taken for the weaker clubs who don't get to play on a big occasion.

Agreed. Security was kept very busy around the Port cheersquad yesterday. They have some definate trouble makers in and around there. (and from both sets of supporters).

Port members, who had paid for their ticket months ago and probably didn't hold out much hope of a win, or Crows supporters, who had paid something like $30 for their tickets within the past 10 days?

Come off the grass - no-one can say for sure what he exact breakdown was, but when 10,000 people don't show up to a game that was near as dammit sold out, to suggest that people who had bought daily tickets were anywhere near a majority of the no-shows is nonsensical.
