I like this. Clearly, we've been impressed by what he's shown up close over the preseason and that means that he's less of a pie-in-the-sky selection and could have impact reasonably early like Logan Evans.

He has exciting attributes and potentially fills a bit of a list need. Not as much as needing another key defender, but we do need to keep adding players with high ceilings to our midfield / wing areas.

I think he misses out on a spot on the AFL list, but he can still be on the Magpies list.

Don't mind it. More of a chance of finding a diamond in the rough via the non traditional pathways than the usual under 18 leagues that have every recruiter pouring over them with a fine tooth comb. Geelong pick a lot of guys out of nowhere and it works well for them.

Port Adelaide list manager Jason Cripps acknowledged Lai’s hard work to gain his opportunity.

“We have been impressed with his approach to training, the way he learns and applies feedback, and how quickly he has adapted to the intensity needed at AFL level.

Love his size and build already. Refreshing to have a midfielder who doesn't look all skin and bones when drafted and is a very solid height.
