They technically can sign him next year but it's unlikely they'd be able to sign more than 1 gun in 2012 as their cap won't have much room in it after this year.

All I know about Sidey is he loves his footy and I love his footy.
I have not the slightest inkling of how he would think in regard to money, career or his long term (next 85 year) future.

I would also think his Parents and Manager would have a view too.

It's not cut and dry.

I hope he stays because I just got 22 put on my new jumper.

He is a country boy through and through. Would genuinely be one of the very last players on our list I'd be concerned about leaving, he'd hate being too far away from his roots.
