Ah that old chestnut, unfortunately for the Swans the AFL saw through that crap with the Franklin deal

What a complete load of shiite the COLA was and it's just plain embarrassing seeing a Sydney fan crying foul over handouts. LEt's face it, the only way Sydney can make the finals is with their snouts in the trough.

Pull your head in
Pull my head in? Who are you? i'm trying to understand, how you have any authority to tell me, what I should and shouldn't be doing...

Your whole statement is hyperbole. Absolutely hollow words.

I'm going to take some solace knowing that Melbourne are back where they belong once again. This scenario would change with or without priority picks.

They're hollow to you because Sydney is so used to handouts you lot now just expect them.

Sydney having an academy like GCS is just a ****ing rort. Stop sooking about other clubs when your own is the worst parasites in the AFL

I'm not "sooking" at all. I'm merely pointing out the absurdity of your position and responding to your statements.

You only want fair, when fairness aligns to your own interests.

Anyway, enjoy another few decades in wilderness my angry little friend...

True. Some clubs being able to have academies and have access to players of superior quality than others is a blight on the game and a massive inequality. At this point its getting hard to take the AFL seriously.

Curiously Melbourne Demons supporters are ironically the most vocal opponents of it, year-after-year. “fu** you, got mine”.
What priority picks? It's been 10 years and the player we grabbed (Trengove) was traded for peanuts and then retired.

We're not benefitting at all from that.

Whats the point of giving them more picks if the players aren't staying there. More needs to be done to help them contain/retain the kids they have.

I don't know what that is, but sending kid after kid up there to replace the last one to leave isn't working!

They need COLA and some up there!

Brisbane seems to have fixed its player retention problem. Gold Coast will get there with AFL backing.

I'll be furious if Gold Coast get Pick 2:
1) The Crows traded into this high pick not knowing this would happen (we got the Carlton position right, but underestimated our own inadequacy on the playing front!)
2) Gold Coast should not be rewarded for their ineptitude, the latest example of which is losing Lyons to Brisbane (exactly the sort of mid-age player they need and double digit votes in the Brownlow this year!)

They wouldn't give us 1 after a 2 win season, no way GC should be getting one now. All it will achieve is to shuffle everyone else down the list for no reason.
They'll give us 2 not 1.
Carlton had their fair share of priority picks over the years already.

The AFL's reason for shuffling everyone down is they want the team in a region of major growth to succeed.
We're shuffling down Melbourne who played a prelim last year, Adelaide who played in a granny 2 years ago.. and the kids available beyond that in this draft are so even it won't even matter.

This year (even tho its one player) will help if they can get the two best mates to play together. Unlikely to happen again in future if drafted by separate teams.

Hopefully the suns administration have lined up introductions with two other gold coast local best friends or sisters eg View attachment 752472
Anderson and Rowell might be friends but I’m surprised it hasn’t been mentioned on here that Andersons father dean is a board member at st kilda I wonder if we are going to come after hard like king

Our last PP was in 2007. Not exactly recent.
Carlton last year had a worse year than the Suns had this year.

AFL is a corrupt organisation that makes up rules on the run.

Priority picks, academies and COLA should all be eliminated. The are all rorts.

I would change the rookie retention period to three years. Two is too little.

The AFL is not a corrupt organisation. Only people with no heckin'g clue what corruption actually is would say that

What the AFL is is a pragmatic organisation, often coming across as arbitrary

Brisbane at their worst "go home 5" didn't get one, neither did one of the worst non-expansion teams to play in Melbourne 2013.

The difference is that GC are struggling to exist as a football club at the moment.

Looking at the bottom 4, there's a substantial difference in quality when you compare Gold Coast to Melbourne, Carlton and Sydney.

If anyone ever gets it, it's Gold Coast. I don't believe it should be a start of first round pick though. Maybe mid first round.

carlton have more handouts than sydney in the last decade

Bull crap.
Carlton have had no PPs in the last decade.
Meanwhile Sydney got Heaney, Mills and Blakey via the academy rort.

John Blakey played 300 games for North. Yet his son was not a father son selection for them, instead he ends up the Swans.

Now you guys are begging for COLA again. Pathetic.

1 as in a pick at all, not even the end of the 1st round type stuff.

Why are you trying to argue pick 1,2 like it makes a difference? Either way you will have Pick 1 + 2

You gave Brisbane a 1st round pick for nothing, you gave up pick 2 for nothing. How many handouts do you need to waste before we stop wasting resources on your mob?

If the AFL wan't to help you, give you a bonus mil cap space to spend on free agents so you can offer 2 players an extra 5 * 100k. Draft Pick compo should be completely abolished in its current form, it is an absolute joke.

No one should ever get it, it should be scraped altogether. We had the worst season of anyone in 100 years and they gave us some state players, the system is a joke.

They got Buddy largely in part because he wanted out of the fishbowl of Melbourne. Sydney should have a fishbowl allowance - they get $500K less to spend than other clubs

The only reason that the pick was as high as it was is the competition was a lot more even than previous years so Carlton finished lower down the ladder than they otherwise would have .... .

Except more players want in on the fish bowl than want out

Wrong, blakey could have gone to north. He was a father son selection + a academy selection, he opted to go to Sydney instead.

We paid fair value via the draft point system.

Anyway as discussed above, Vic clubs have a net advantage, when it come to local talent. Academy goes some way to offsetting this
disadvantage to the 4 northern clubs.

Your mob should pay back the points from all the priority pick handouts they received, before you complain about others receiving handouts.

Gil ruled that out already. The AFL views cap concessions as being a greater evil than priority picks for some reason.

No team would dare use any additional cap "bonus". There is a high likelihood even though you followed the rules as setout by the league, Brisbane would be subjected to a arbitrary trade ban. "because you can have everyone" in the middle of your premiership window.

What does giving GC special assistance have to do with Brisbane? They already got their PP without ever falling to the depths Carlton did last year.

Hodge, Roughead, Ellis board.

If those rules were back GC would get pick 1 now, Carlton would have got pick 19 last year, Brisbane nothing the year before that.

So the only thing the rule change has done is the AFL now pick and choose who they feel like giving compo to.
