Bedford doesn't adhere to the rules. He just TRIES to enforce them.
I don't trie , i just give my opinion, i originally started this thread for whats in the Media and then discuss in General . Maybe it should be closed and all put under GD.
I just put a post on GD about a story in the Roar which is fantastic , but will require general discussion

I know you started this thread. But you need to have a helicopter view of your posts within it if you want to justify your off topic rants. Just all I'm saying.

I'm not trying to , just frustrating when it turns into things about Prince Harry that's all i'm saying
It just seems that you accuse others of doing what you do on your thread. Cannot be on topic all the time in the off-season. That is impossible. We are starved of things to talk about. Leave us to our rants and little diversions just like you do. Stop policing us.

Bad news for you. stevie26 has already posted that article above.

And it is clearly 'Swans in the Media' and it's quite normal for discussion to follow an initial post.
And yes occasionally this thread and others will go off topic, but you know in the end it actually doesn't matter.
It will get back on the subject at hand or get moved to the 'dumpster' thread.

I can only think you must be the World's most boring conversationalist, if you refuse to allow a discussion to flow and move from one topic to another.

I'm sure your life on this forum would be a lot simpler and more fulfilling if you constantly stopped trying to tell everyone what they should do.
I hate to tell you, but you are the one out of step, not the rest of the Board.

I apologise and i hadn't seen it was up. Sorry , off topic i'm going to the pub

“tore into his credentials”, “going to be death ridden”, “gave it to him pretty bad and contributed to his reflection” … does anyone seriously think that any player who misses the chance to kick a winning goal needs help with their reflection? Is giving it to someone pretty bad likely to help the player improve?

What is helpful is identifying the areas a player needs to work on, better still if specific skills in that area are identified. Being constructive in criticism doesn’t mean being soft. It does mean being thoughtful and supporting players and the team we supposedly care about.

There will be a few who don’t want to do that. They need to vent. Scream at the TV, let rip with a mate, kick a footy. Just vent where the player can’t hear or read it.

It’s clear that Bell was subjected to some foul racial abuse. But it’s also the case that Indigenous players are often more easily hurt, even if the language is not explicitly racist.

Mental health issues are becoming endemic amongst AFL players and social media is a significant part of the reason. It’s easy to say players need to toughen up, like they said about Adam Goodes. Or that players shouldn’t look at social media, but they do because they’re curious, as Bell put it.

Being respectful. It’s a big part of what the club we love stands for.

I'll continue to cheer all players when warranted and bemoan any player that seemingly costs us a game. Regardless of the colour of their skin. How do you know what drives an individual to improve ? A spray is still employed in some areas of football.

Here is my outlet for that as I don't have Swans family around me.

My frustration with any player is pretty tame but I'm comfortable doing so here. In fact I probably stick up for players more than anything.

Of course unfortunately Bell copped racial abuse and you alluded that to being internet trolls as well and Swans haters. You may be right there, my only point was that there was not just racism after that miss but plenty of Swan fan disappointment that was expressed one way or the other. That's footy.

You can lead the charge to change that, I respect it but the reality is part of the roller coaster of supporting a team leads to some negative moments.

It breaks my heart that he feels that way but I also think he should be grateful for what he achieved and hope that on reflection he can.

So well said , but some will find a way to turn it around

Even thought this interview is with a now past player its important enough to add here for listening.

Very worthwhile interview. I was moved and saddened to hear about the impact of the racism Jimmy had to contend with. I was also heartened to hear about his great connection with some of the players and coaching staff.

Light and fluffy

They're driven to an extent that most 'norms' can't fully appreciate. They are their own fiercest critics but they also take on board criticism from those whom they admire and trust and those they can learn from such as coaches, more experienced players, better players, those who know them well and have their well-being in mind.

I hear what you saying BB. Professional/Elite amateur sports-people don't get to where they are by ignoring criticism. They learn to embrace negative feedback, to welcome it even, as the most honest form of feedback. They seek it out from those they trust, those who have their interests at heart, those who are better, more informed and dedicated to helping them improve. They're their own hardest critics as they pull apart their performance looking for lessons from which they can improve. They and the critics they open themselves to tend to be very careful about going too far, to find balance, to be realistic without being damning. Good coaches can give the harshest criticism constructively.

Conversely, despite leaving themselves open to criticism by their nature, players stand to learn nothing from pissed off or disappointed fans who are merely taking out their own frustrations, through cheap pot-shots or snide remarks. They try their best to ignore such but when each voice of criticism is amplified by thousands of voices, and much of it intended to be quite nasty, the reality is a player bombarded by non-constructive and often undeserved criticism. Comments like waste of space, shouldn't be in the seniors, not worth wasting time on etc etc. Typed in frustration but each drop coming together to form a deluge.

Remember, when a player misses a goal shot that could have won them a final they already feel like the worst sort of shit in the universe. Their teammates are going to be supportive "Don't let that miss define you" etc. It's be nice if we "supporters" were more supportive.

Last word to my granny. If you can't say something nice about a person..... We all know the rest

I think that's a fair assessment from Horse. If we're expecting a 36yr old to dominate our scoring we're in trouble.

It might just be me but I am ready to put the Reid injury debacle to bed. Whether a fit Reid or McDonald or whoever was playing, it wouldn't have made a difference. We got beaten by about 13 goals. Getting one decision wrong is just not worth dwelling on. It's like getting upset about a vase being broken when your entire house was swept up in a tornado.
Bbbbb but it was a really nice vase there for a while ….

If a player chooses to come onto a platform to read these pages against the advice of clubs not to do that then they do so at their own risk.

As I’ve said all the nice feel good ways to be a supporter are not reality.

This is my place to vent and support. A place I feel I can do it without harming the sensitivity of a player as it’s reasonable not to expect them to be reading.

My criticism is mild and I mainly support. But when a player contributes to a close loss especially a final I might say “hopeless” in that hour after.

Fight the good fight all you want but I’ll support my way (usually positive) but emotion driven after a loss for a small window.

If any player is reading. You’ve been warned. But I still love you.

Article on Code Sports on each club's most irreplaceable MVP. Will Schofield names Heeney as ours, with Mills, Parker, Franklin, Papley and Warner as honourable mentions.

No mention of Tom McCartin.

Clearly never watched a game of ours or viewed our list in his life.
