OK.
Time to give Dave a fair go.
He agreed to this thread for our benefit.

Sorry Dave I'm a guilty as the rest.:o

Back to "your" questions.

Not Just my Questions also my Posts instead of making New Ones

Great idea for a thread :thumbsu: But so many questions for just 1 man.
No, not just 1 man, DAVE THE MAN! He'll handle our queries with aplomb whilst bouncing around a few of his own ideas. Watch and learn, people! (Pie Eyed, ease up on the lunch time booze up).

Dave, weather forecast is 16 degrees and showers.

Do you think we should bring in Barham if it is wet? What will that do for team morale considering the ongoing feud with Beams?

Hey Dave, not sure if I can post this here so if I should'nt sorry. The new injury list is up. Guess which players are still I week away!!!!

Who Will Debut 1st?
Blight or Rounds

Our 2 3rd Round Picks 2 years ago, Both where taken as underage and had Development years last season but both have showed a lot in the VFL Season and I hear both are Close to Debuting.

So who be 1st?

I think Blight could be as I reckon he could have a Few Places where he can play where Rounds at the moment seems to be a Small Forward and he has Dick,Davis and Medders ahead of him but he does show a lot of promise.

So who do you think Debut 1st?

i apologise TD.

Could you see someone debuting this week against the Dees?

Maybe - Buckley was Named in the Best in the VFL on his Return so he could come in against his Ex-Side. Don't Rule our Round or Blight getting a Game

This is a thread so that TD can post his thoughts and opinions without cluttering up the main board.

If you are just going to post to take the piss or abuse him do not bother posting. If you do you will risk an infraction for derailing the thread.

I ask people to get behind this thread, support it and to take it seriously.

Quicky.

Dave,

I think Rounds will debut, as our backline and midfield are well set and don't seem to be having any issues. Our forward line is where there is opportunity and that is why I think Rounds might have the advantage.

Long term I believe Blight will be the superior player.

Very True about the Forward Line is still not Settled and Rounds could find a Place there.

That is the kind of post that Is I like in this Thread

Dave,

Is there scope for Blight to play forward?

It is my understanding that he is being developed as an attacking half-back in the mould of Heath Shaw, while Rounds is more of a forward/mid.

I can't actually think of a comparison for Rounds on our list, as he is reportedly so quick we don't have one!

I think the opportunity for Rounds to debut has probably passed though, as Dick is now back and will jump the queue. As such I feel that injury is the only thing that will see either of these players debut, and both would have to get past Lockyer who would be next in line in both defence and attack if injury strikes.

I looked Blight up on the CFC website. It says he's only 76 kg, which seems light for someone who's 187cm. Is he a bit light for AFL level yet? - don't want him ending up like poor Dicky. But maybe he's put on some muscle since those details were recorded for his profile.

Well I guess Blight could platy forward as he can Leap and Take a Good Mark but I don't think he be used the Right way if we play him in the Forward Line

I think the Numbers are out of Date. Those are his Draft Day Measurements

I personally think rounds will debut first, both are skinny but rounds has the much better 2010 form which is more important in thinking of selection.

Blight looks to be a footballer though, he is just too slight at the moment and as such his form just isnt there

A serious question addressed to Dave (or anyone else);

Has the VFL team exceeded your expectations by winning 5 in a row and positioning itself as a VFL premiership contender?

My answer to that question would be yes, as I was really worried about how our young players and our real lack of "top up" players would effect our VFL teams success on field.:)

Yes it has, and I think senior players, such as Lockyer, have helped this

I think they have been about where I though as a Top 4 Side after we reached the Prelim Last Season and we seem to be better then last season:thumbsu:

Good thread, it's like Dave's own blog on the Collingwood board. :)

I tend to think that Rounds may debut first, because we have more options at half-back and traditionally that's been a position of strength for us, which might work against Blight. I know Blight is capable of playing in the midfield or wing, but I suspect MM will want him to start out off half-back playing a role similar to BJ given his capacity for run-and-carry and long, accurate kicking.

The other factor that may work in Rounds' favour is that he is competing with a couple of older, somewhat injury-prone players in Davis and Medhurst. Not disparaging those guys at all, but a window could inadvertently open if one of them becomes temporarily unavailable, ie. if Rounds himself isn't injured as he was recently. Blight can't be overlooked though, he's quite rightly rated very highly by the coaching and development staff, and he's already featured in the emergencies for AFL games which I don't believe Rounds can yet boast.

I've got my money on Blight. But thats out of pure bias, that kids a beauty. With Dick coming into calculations soon that may limit Rounds chances. And with Johnson's form going downhill when the games are getting tougher that may just open the door up for our HB with the most potential and best kicking skills.

Interesting that as yet we have not blooded one new young player

I think Blight / Rounds is impossible to call at this stage. A lot of it is going to depend on oppertunity and who is most likely is probably going to change a few times before either of them break in.

Originally Blight looked miles ahead of Rounds who looked very vanilla and seemed to struggle a tad to adjust to senior footy. Blight was no stand out but he clearly has "it" there is a lot of class to everything he does.

At the moment Rounds looks most likely he is settled into a leading small foward role and with our fowardline still not settled he would have to be in the calculations somewhere even if it is on the edge. The fact is that Rounds has found a role and is making it his own and performing well on a regular basis. Blight at the moment is still very much a player who doesn't do enough to push for selection, but what he does do shows he has real class and ability.

Whilst Rounds is in calculations at the moment the return of Davis, Dick coming into fitness, Tarks still being an experinced small foward and Medhurst makes it unlikely that Rounds will be selected in the near future and it's hard to predict beyond that.

I know it wasn't the question, but i feel someone like Josh Thomas or Tom Young might leap frog them both. Having said that, obviously not this season. I don't know if any player will get their debut in 2010. W have been too uninjured, thankfully. I can see Tom Young coming in as he is hard and skilled and can play that backline role. But again, not until he is on the list which, almost certainly, will be 2011.
