Good to see Smack start sprinting from the goal line as soon as it went through to congratulate him, despite how much harder it will be for him to get back in the side with Tex fit again.
Smack was a bit anonymous last night, but that was a great kick to hit up Tex for that shot.

Was good to see Brodie Martin come in and get between Tex and a largish Tiger that was needling him. Brodie isn't the biggest bloke in the world, but he doesn't back down.
I've said it before, while Martin probably doesn't have a future with us he was one of the only guys who really played with some heart last night.

Why would there have been booing?
I was wondering that at the ground. Jealous pricks with chips on their shoulders was all I could come up with.

He could have got closer to the man on the mark but why bother when you can just go boom from 60 metres out in your first game back from a knee recon..
They've done a great job with his rehab, his leg looks fine in terms of muscle rebuilt too, identical to the other leg from any pictures I've seen..

I've seen footage of a goal he kicked by getting it quickly on the boot near the behind line but haven't seen it online yet..
That was good to see in a different way, had to be confident and quick on his feet and with the action, had pressure coming at him and was taken to ground..

Also seen the Glenelg knob that gave him a shove in the back as Tex took a mark running at the boundary line which sent him flying at the bench..
Tex, as you would expect, turned around and gave him a bit of a forearm to the body for it..

Mate interested in Batto, CEY, Cameron - thoughts?
CEY worked his arse off as our only inside mid. Not sure if he is playing there because the SANFL team has nobody else and we need him too or we see him playing there in the AFL. Most likely the former. Showed his athleticism and uses his size well but lacks polish and I agree with your previous assessments.

Battersby is a very well built kid, nice skills and worked his way into the game. Didn't seem to lose any one on one's and set up Charlie with a brilliant handball over his head in front of me. Would like to see more of him.

Cameron was the highlight of the night by far (excluding Tex)
Blistering pace and a real willingness to use it! Is a confident little dude not afraid to tell his teammates where to go and how to set him up. Finished really well he is going to be a weapon for us nobody will be able to go with him. Excitement plus when he joins Eddie and Tex in the AFL and I don't think he is far away. Give him a shot at the sub Sando.

Special mention to Atkins he just has something about him. Loves to take them on oozes that Didak like arrogance and is a tough customer. Not a great game but really like what he brings to the table.

Thanks mate:thumbsu:

It's funny I couldn't put my finger on what it was about Atkins either - just some of his movement looked that little cut above. Still a long way to go though - needs a breakout game.

Of the guys who have yet to play a game I hold out most hope for Cameron, Batto and Atkins

IMO the Crows and Tex said a couple of SANFL games because they thought it would be needed for him to to gain confidence and feel for the game.

Now I didn't see the game and am only going by the reports. But he seemed to gain that confidence in that hit out. Does he need another? If it's not to build fitness then no.

I think the initial plan of multiple SANFL games made sense but now looking at playing Melbourne at Adelaide Oval versus getting thumped on a country oval with the ball rarely coming forward…maybe it's time to roll the dice early.

No doubt will be a little sore, so the 11 day break could be perfect leading up to a Thurs v Pies.

Fox Halftime just did a Tex segment - showed his long bomb from 65 and the tight dribble goal, as well as running around. Followed with an interview - he's playing again for the ressies this week.

It easy to go with what 95% of people are saying that he needs another reserves game, I honestly believe it would be his and the Clubs best interest to play for the Crows against Melbourne.

That would give him a chance to play against a "soft" team and let him to get used to the game and the speed of the game. I wouldnt care if he did nothing special or even played as a stay at home full forward. If he does nothing in the Pies game, that will hurt us a lot more.

The fact is that we have a bye after the game which will give him two weeks to rest and recover from the run. Geez I would rather him even play as a sub.

Even if a player did go out early, if we cant beat the Demons at AO, with just 21 players and Tex coming on in the third quarter there is just no point of playing finals this year.

Also we have the bye after the Demons as well, so even if we were run off our feet against the Demons we have two weeks to recover.

Saw some highlights of his game on the news and he really did look great. I was one of those thinking there might have been something wrong with Tex about his knee (maybe he was really lacking confidence about his knee holding up), but god bless him he was really hard at it. Attacked the ball with pace, no padding etc on his knee, was really agile, and basically looked like he did before he did it. My nerves are starting to settle about him now.
GO TEX.....

If Taylor pulls up well from his 1st hit out and 3.3 haul, why not play him?

With the bye to follow the Demons clash before an absolute blockbuster against Collingwood again at the Oval on May 15, the hit-out will have the 24 year old cherry ripe for the club’s biggest test of the season so far.

Make no mistake, they need him.

I wonder if Bones has been reading my comments on Bigfooty. lol:p:cool:

I want to see Tex as much as the next guy, but there's no chance of him playing next week.

We have taken no shortcuts with his rehab, why would we start now?

Personally, I wouldn't mind if his first game was against Gold Coast.

Do his come back right and do it once.

Have you ever played competitive sport? There is no such thing as going into a game half-assed. He'd actually be more likely to re-injure himself going in at half pace than if he went full speed.

You can't expect Tex to play against Melbourne and just take it easy. If he's playing AFL, he's going full pace. As much as you like to paint Melbourne as a "soft team", the fact is they'd give any SANFL team a 100 point drubbing. Tex has just spent a full year getting to this stage. Why on earth would we rush him back early just so he can "get used to the speed of the game" a week earlier? If I were Tex and found out the club were trying to push me back a week earlier because they were worried about the Pies game, I'd be furious. It would be negligence at the highest level.

Give him as many SANFL games as he needs. It's not like we're any kind of legitimate flag threat this year anyway. What we need is Tex's recovery to be completed properly, not to hotshot his return so he can get a couple of underdone possessions against a fellow cellar-dweller.

Melbourne may not have the polish and quality but their competitiveness under Roos is a whole new ball game from them..
Underestimate that and run around expecting a soft day and, well....
