Considering they were pick 24 and 38 they COULD end up being real winners. Both have a lot of potential, especially Garlett.

I think Melbourne and Collingwood are going to regret not taking Sheed. Salem may turn out ok but Sheed looks to be a boss. Freeman seems Lonieesque to me.
Aish will stay for a little while, if he did come home it would be more like 7-8 years. We will take Dangerfield for him

Now that I think about it... If Ryan Lester didn't miss from 10 meters out with 5 seconds to go to win the game against Geelong in rd23, we wouldn't of had pick 7 in this draft! If that kick went through, we would of leap frogged 2 or 3 teams and ended up with pick 10 or so. Thank you very much Ryan Lester, you are responsible for the recruiting of a future club champion, James Aish. If your kick went through, we would of ended up with a dud like Freeman.

How can anyone judge whether a team has 'won' or 'lost' a draft at this point in time is beyond me.
Grunt as in workrate. Aish doesn't cover the miles of Gaff, Kelly and Whitfield.
nope, you would have leap frogged adelaide and north which wouldn't have made any difference to you getting Aish. Now that I think about it... It would be embarrassing for the AFL if a club pulled a complete shock and drafted someone who wasn't even there.
I'd say 15-20 would be close to the mark.
Bad thing about rating the draft is that straight away every team thinks they have walked away a winner - you won't find too many disgruntled threads made the next day. However obviously that's not the case. In reality I believe apart from the top 9(ish)picks there's a lot of smoke around most of the players being hit or miss. Look at previous drafts (pre 2005) and you'll be saying to yourself "who" a fair few times after pick 15ish.
To completely disregard my first paragraph I'd say collingwood and gws are the clear winners. Collingwood with berg/freeman is such a good drafting period for a team that finished 6th(?) - I also rate Marsh quite well as well. Gws is obvious - don't quite understand the McCarthy pick but I'm sure there's a plan. I'd say saints as well but I'm too biased. Hawthorn could also be an extremely big winner for premiers as well.

If you read the 2008 post draft thread for Freo, the drafting team was widely criticised by the supporters. Hill was a reach, Ballantyne won't make the grade, Suban too small, Clarke to thin, Walters to unfit...ultimately that draft made nearly a 1/3 of our best 22.
I'd say the GWS plan is to make him a 'big' midfielder. KPP will all be 195cm+ in 5-8 years time. Midfielders 190ish.
It's not obvious. Would be stunned if we took someone like Thorp. Doesn't fit the types we recruit in regards to attitude. No thanks.
So aside from future prospects, what teams can actually improve their list in 2014 with draftees? Obviously Boyd comes to mind with GWS, could come straight in and help them win a few more games. As for Hawthorn, assuming a healthy list I can't see anyone breaking into the best 25 next year. You could make a case for Garlett, but there are a fair few others with long VFL apprenticeships that would be hard to leapfrog.
Dearth doesn't mean what you think it does. Quite the opposite.Scharenberg they don't particularly need - WC have a dearth of flankers (Hurn, Butler, Smith, Brennan) to set them from half back. Aish I can agree with, but I don't see a problem with WC taking the best available west australian mid.
There's also guys like Tom Rischbieth who set then-records in the beep test and the 3km time trial, but only got picked up as a rookie.Surprised that Hartung slide to Pick 24 since there are plenty of examples of players who go Top 10 on their beep tests alone. His skills are very good by foot also, so it seems like a steal.
So it does. Un-dearth?Dearth doesn't mean what you think it does. Quite the opposite.
