I think we benefit more by setting the standard that we will do well by our players and their lives outside of football than we ever could being absolute hardarses about trades.

My point was and is : what exactly is this benefit? At least give me an example.

People have provided plenty of reasons but I'll restate them anyway.

We're a destination club because of our reputation for looking after our players. Because we value players as people not as footballing robots to be traded like horses to get our furthest advantage from.

But further, if one of your workmates is treated poorly as they leave the place you work it sends a message to everyone there that the people of the company aren't important to it, only the company itself. It slowly breeds discontent. Thats not us, we respect our players as people. Now whether this is in helping people who want to move for personal reasons, or any other part of our programs (sure buddy, take time off through finals) it builds a culture of respect and decency, and that helps to attract people in non-footballing roles even attract and retain fans. The whole institution and organisation is stronger because we take small losses occasionally on trades and don't battle like bastards on every small potential advantage. There is barely a difference between pick 10 and pick 12, it depends how those players develop, and we are creating the best environment to develop people and players in.

I agree with you, Mills is developing slowly.
o_O

Delivered one of the most accomplished rookie seasons in recent memory playing like a veteran in a position where it's easy to be exposed.

Had a couple of average games this season but he's not on his Pat Malone there.

He only won the rising star in defence and obviously not racking up disposals in the midfield[emoji14]

You can't be a good young player not dominating in the Mids of a shit team.

Edit: Drunk attempt at sarcasm

People have not provided any and all you've done is say that it has resulted in us being a destination club. This is highly debatable if you want to refer to the facts of player movement between clubs.

Mate Buddy Franklin asked to come here. Young Oli Florent, 6 months after his old man dies and he gets drafted to an interstate club, what does he say on draft night? Its good to be going to a club with a great reputation.
If you can't see the benefits of being decent to the players and how that helps create a good culture and a tight knit group with whats been said by me and others by now then you'll never see it. I hope I never work for someone who thinks the way you do.

Ok, so ignore the question because you can't answer it beyond vague references to culture. Pretty much what I expected.

Buddy didn't come here for a combination of money and his gf. Florent didn't come here because, I don't know, he had no choice. It's all to do with our reputation.

I actually want what's best for the club not for those who want to leave.

I'll try and say this as politely as I can and without being condescending. Sometimes you need to have some life experience to understand the importance of things. Only through that life experience can you see what others see. Im 60. I've employed staff for 30 years. I've played sport until I was 37. Trust me it's important to culture

you know nothing about me and there are plenty of narrow minded and indeed stupid 60 year olds out there who propagate ridiculous arguments based on their 'experience'. i tried to say that without being irreverent.

How about you give us your examples of the club doing the wrong thing in your opinion then. Presumably a few trades that you feel we got unders on?

Is the no d...heads the reason why we traded Jetta or was he just lazy and inconsistent?

Neither, we accommodated his wishes to return home to WA.
