It’s a strong word but I hate the commentary on 7.

Where to begin? If they’re not yelling inanities then they’re lost for words e.g. Brayshaw (?) saying ‘look at that’ when Sidebottom kicked the sealer. We are looking at it James. That’s literally why we’re hearing your voice. Your job is to add to the spectacle, not give us an instruction.

Taylor is in a league of his own. Screeching old fool. One word comes to mind: parody.

The special comments from the vibe-killing Richo or word-mangling Hodge are the cherries on top. I don’t mind Holmes but don’t interview the players so soon after the siren. And don’t ask stupid questions. Let the situation unfold, there’s not much need for commentary after the quick summary.

They’ve gradually phased out the likes of Carey and Ling but they’ve been replaced by Watson, Burgoyne and Jones. Who on earth approved that?

One skilled commentator and one insightful special commentator. That’s it. Don’t overdo it.

How could they be so far off the mark? The atmosphere in the ground was insane.
Were they in a studio at Docklands?

The Collingwood Football Club should commission an alternative call to be put over the vision.

Wonder if they were subdued because of the feedback on recent Collingwood bias / barracking.

They barrack in every game. Did follow the narrative a bit too closely in the finals though.

It is an event and a fair chunk of viewers only watch the GF, so showing prominent people caters for the MAFS and Block types.

At least when the BluRay comes out you can choose from radio commentary too, which will be on YouTube pretty soon.

Why was the crowd so quiet?

I assumed it was like that because the crowd is 80% corporate dickheads and regular fans can't afford to get in and see the game.

The volume of the prelim was astonishing. Yesterday sounded like a regular season Sunday twilight fixture.

But maybe it was just because the prelim was on Kayo and yesterday channel 7 decided we don't want crowd noise, we want ump mics turned up to 11?

Was at the G yesterday - while it’s not at the level of a big prelim (the GF never is, too many neutrals), the crowd was definitely loud and invested.

Channel 7 simply remove it.

I know they won’t but the AFL needs to step in. It is damaging their game.

Yes agree. Bring back the professional commentators. Sick of it becoming a club to fill it with ex players.
I want the voice, the drama, the expressions of a professional brought back.
I want to hear things like what Gerard Wheatley said about the pies being like the grim reaper during a comeback game with passion and drama, rather than wowee I'm shocked.

The 2 minute ending with trash commentary to then immediately have Abbey Holmes in every players’ face.
Honestly don’t care about the players’ reaction and interview immediately after the game. Just let it roll and show the players celebrating and rejoicing.
It’s just
A) ex AFL players getting jobs and think they know it all
And
B) people that want to be seen and take the limelight- Holmes, Hodge, and worst of all- Dangerfield.. wtf is Dangerfield even doing there

They hit the club song way too early every week and it grinds my gears.

How about let the crowd enjoy a minute of celebration instead of playing the club song 4 secs after the final siren ffs.

Immediate post game interviews after GFs is also annoying. Players are barely able to think straight and have dumb questions hammered at them while we miss footage of other celebrations going on out on the field and in the crowd.

Obviously I like Brayshaw for being instrumental in keeping North in Melbourne and all that, but I have no ****ing idea how he has paved a career in radio. He's terrible.

The sh!t commentary is one thing goes without saying.. but to stuff up the directing and camera angles especially that crappy behind the player goal shot which zooms in and doesn't even follow the ball at times is just unforgivable. Whoever the director was yesterday sack him/her ASAP!!

I remember last year, I thought so many Cat shots at goal had missed because the commentary was so flat and dull.

It was only after seeing the crowd behind the goals going nuts and players celebrating that I was "oh wait holy hell that's another goal!"

Whenever I put on a replay of 2022 I pick basically any audio track at random bar Ch 7. I know the margin blew out but even early on they may as well have been calling from a morgue.

As predicted, the pathetic Ch7 Director chose an iso shot of the coach at full time.

DUMB!!!

Just a second before, Ch7 had the perfect shot.

Wide, probably 20 players in shot and a heap of Collingwood fans in the background.

Couldn't have been better. Would have been brilliant and dare I say iconic.

But no, let's single out one person.

I really don't want emotional types in the special comments role. They are there to analyse the game. They should be more analytical

Forget the piss poor commentary for a second, the actual video quality is garbage as well. Watching footy in 4K all year is great, only to be stuck watching the grand final in such piss poor bitrate that its near on impossible to see the ball while it's in motion.
