A lot of BF posters seem to think Hepp's the next in line for the Captaincy.
Bags has had VC during the suspension, so now has runs on the board.

Michael Hurley is the one in my view; demands respect, vocal on the field and directs those around him, leads by example, takes on any role asked of him and has an AA cap.

If it means the difference between him signing on or not, Hurley's my choice.

What say you?

Any of Hurley, Hooker or Hep are fine by me as the next one.

If he hadn't had such a terrible injury run, Myers would be in the conversation I think too.

Much prefer this goes to the players rather than just handing it to Hurls as a bargaining chip. It's pretty clearly going to Dyson though, only talk is around the VC and I wouldn't object to having multiples to help promote leadership.

Is that something that has come specifically from the club though? I haven't heard anything official declared.

Seems an almost unnecessary conversation. It WILL be Heppell.

Having said that, I would be happy with Hurley or Hooker.

It going to Hepp. I thought the players voted on the Leadership Group but the Captaincy was sorted out by I don't even know... I presume the coach has a lot of weight. A defender who also captained. Just sayin'.

Nothing official, however he's been earmarked for it for a long time. He was elevated to the leadership group in just his third season, was voted in as vice captain in 2015 and filled in for Jobe when he went down injured.

The coaching group have to ratify the results of the player vote, but there is no way they would do something as divisive as overturn a decision when they are trying to earn back the trust of this group.

I'd be interested to know the players' attitudes towards this. I don't see what Heppell has that Hurley doesn't have in spades also.

I agree that overturning a decision that's already been made could be divisive. Has there ever been a situation where the vice captain didn't naturally progress on to the Captaincy?

At the end of the day we need all of those guys to be on field leaders.

The really only difference is the named captain has to do a whole bunch more off field stuff which I reckon Heppell has set himself up for.

If that actually meant the difference between Hurley staying and going (it won't), I'd rather he left and definitely rather he wasn't captain. He will stay because he wants to play for us, no other reason is acceptable. He will captain if the players and coaching staff believe he is the best suited to the job. There is no place for captaincy talk in that discussion.
Anyway, I'd like it to be Hooker. I agree it will most likely be Hepp.

Plenty of times, but that's usually when the VC has been older than the captain or has regressed as a player and their spot in the side is in question.

A big plus in Heppell's favour is he's already recommitted for next year. I understand Hurls needs to take time to consider his future and have no qualms over it, but as a player I'd much rather have a bloke leading who has no questions over his commitment. Aside from what I have previously mentioned, Heppell has gone all in and has been speaking positively about the club all year, even before recommitting his language was always showing he's still part of the group, using stuff like we, us, the boys. He's regularly attended matches for both the seniors and VFL and despite the suspension he still finds ways to get involved with the where ever possible.

The real difference between Heppell and Hurley is we know Heppell wants to lead this place and does everything he can to show it.

Heppell will be the next captain with Hurley and Hooker the VC's, Zach and Joe also in the LG

I think Hepp has been groomed to take the captaincy over from Jobe.

Though I'd be happy to see Hooker as captain.
