The Mal Michael Appreciation Thread

Is it my imagination, or is this guy getting better and better with every Essendon game?

It was always going to be tough on him last year without a decent pre-season, but I thought he was one of our best all season.

And now .. with a decent fitness base behind him, look out!

Maybe besides Fletch, there's no-one in the team I feel more comfortable about when they're approaching the ball than Mal. So strong, so resolute, so tough and oh so very rarely wastes a disposal.

I don't think I ever appreciated truly how good he was at Brisbane. It's certainly fantastic having him in the red and black, though. What a star!

I probably would have saved this thread for a day that he wasn't beaten. Especially by a guy that hasn't played a game for over a year.

You clearly have a different view of what happened today to me. He was fantastic, and certainly not beaten. He wasn't playing on Thompson all day, either, as I think you're suggesting.

Thompson kicked 2, if not three on Fletcher.

One Thompson did kick on him was a very obvious shove in the back that the umpire just choose to ignore!!

mal is awsome, and he looks as fit as yester year, I can not recall any massive hauls against him, I remember lloyd the best foward at the time kicking 5 against him in the if it bleeds game, lloyd had kick 13 the week before. Many would pick other full backs before him I would not he is the best spoiler the game has seen

At the game I thought until late in the 3rd he was b.o.g for us. Just fantastic. He's a rock.

Mal Michael is just fantastic!

It's really great too, the way he's just slipped straight into the side, almost like he's always been there.

I really hope he has a great year, because I would really like to see him play beyond this season, probably on a 1 year contract

big mal michael ey? solid as a rock down back today, was unfortunate to have that 1 "in the back" kick against him (which was worse than the one called against lloyd) but thought he was spectacular today. IMO shoulda been in the top 3 ... but nonetheless looking great and doing fab down the back. keep up the brilliance mal.

Thankfully there aren't many trying to discredit big Mal still, he is very solid down back and very calm with the ball in his hands also.

Showed yesterday just how much a preseason helps. Signs were there he had it last year, just couldn't keep up. Big season for Mal, I hope.

Yea, had a very good game yest. You can see he has lost weight and looks lighter and quicker. Just an extremely solid and reliable key defender.

The first two goals Thompson kicked were on Fletcher, and the third was on MM, and was the fair shove in the back which he got away with somehow.

Cant remember Thommo's fourth, but never yest can I remember Mal letting us down at all.

It just gives you great confidence when you see the ball going towards oppositions key forward, and big Mal is right on their heels, storming out to punch the ball away.
