There are so many bigger problems at Melbourne than Neeld. Their player development. Their drafting. A culture that apparently doesn't value hard work.
Sacking Neeld doesn't fix these problems in the way that Sanderson and Hinkley provided quick fixes.
But with all that said, the question is a simple one - can Neeld move Melbourne forward?
I'm starting to think the answer is no.
John Worsfold should be high on their hit list already. I think he'd be better for them even than Roos.
Neeld is responsible for this.
Our young players were actually developing under Bailey, it's absolutely revisionist to suggest that Bailey is the root cause of our lack of development.
Trengove and Watts came top 10 in our BnF as 20 year olds in 2011 - Blease, Strauss and Tapscott all played good footy under Bailey around their injuries, Gysberts played good footy, Stef Martin, Moloney, etc, etc.
Our development has gone BACKWARDS under Neeld.
I watched a couple of games from 2011 recently, even our intensity at the ball and around the ground has gone backwards under Neeld! Something that he specifically potted the club and players for.
It's ridiculous.
