Wonder when we will announce our retirements. Think we should do it now so we can pay homage to the veterans instead of after the season is over

If our season was heading to an inevitable close this weekend like Collingwood's we probably would have a player or three announce their retirement now but certainly not when we're still well and truly in this and said players have ambitions to achieve something out of the injury riddled rubble.

I doubt we'll see anything similar until we're officially out, unless a player cops a serious injury in the interim which brings things to a head.

COLLINGWOOD champion Dane Swan is expected to call time on his glittering 258-game career at the Magpies on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old will leave with a premiership, Brownlow Medal, three best and fairests and five All Australian selections next to his name.

Not bad. Always liked Swanny.

Shame he couldn't get out on the field to finish it off.
