If Guthrie wasn't such an overrated, finger twirling bellend no one would have an issue with it.

let's not forget the three-goggles. however he's since been surpassed by that duckfaced chode who put his hand to his ear twice during the Eddie Betts Is A Wonderful Person Bowl

Surely one of us could knock it up in vector format and give them a jpeg that's like 10000 pixels wide?

Actually my ex missus used to do embroidery and the program she used specifically would only import jpegs, and then the designer would convert the image to an aesthetically pleasing piece of embroidery by designing it over the top of the jpeg image.

HOWEVER

My big worry is that we're going to get an ugly flat piece of embroidery instead of the glorious piece of 3D embroidery we're all envisaging. I still think going to the club (who will then go through New Era themselves) with this would be the best idea. I've seen a few custom New Era caps with shitty embroidery ruining them a bit.

We have a shitload of people on here already who would buy one, it looks $1000000 on a cap AND it's historical. It's worth going to the club first.

The embroidery actually looks pretty good (as you've found out for yourself!) but I actually don't mind your idea of asking the club first.

I'll be in Adelaide next week and was planning to visit the Ports Club anyway, so I'll run it by them and see what they say.

It would be great to have something to show them, so what does the Ports hat of our dreams actually look like? Is it all black with white script? Or perhaps black with a silver/charcoal peak (or the inverse)?

Once the design is agreed upon I'll try to get a couple of mock ups together and then put the hard word on them!

If not then Plan B is DIY.

All black, white script, as minimalist as possible otherwise. Nothing on the sides but the New Era logo. Maybe 1870 on the back.

Yeah they were my thoughts too. Timeless look and keeps it inline with the source material.

I'm concerned the hat will become a BigFooty poster identifier on match day. Which isn't a bad thing, if I don't get one haha.

While I like this initiative, there's a couple of things that concern me.

1. We're proposing using an historical Port logo to produce custom merchandise for those fortunate enough to be in this thread.
2. We're not involving the club in any way, nor seeking consent from the right people.
3. We're potentially taking revenue away from the club by producing our own merchandise.

What I would do:

1. Before producing a single cap, prepare some production cost estimates on various quantities.
2. Establish a unit cost with an added markup to make the total cost around the retail price of a premium cap of this type. (can be higher than usual because it is limited edition.)
3. Offer to give the club the total markup value in exchange for their permission and blessing.
4. Take orders from BigFooty Port Board and set a limit on the numbers produced. Potentially even have a numbering system on the hats.
5. Produce, distribute and deliver cash monies to the club wearing your new Prtz bling.

If you follow this, I would be interested and can also help produce the artwork for the caps. One thing to note, sometimes it's better to adjust the design slightly to suit the production method than be historically accurate. This might be one of those cases.

I'd go further than that and suggest that any attempt to do this ourselves at all should be a last resort after some significant pestering of the right people at the club. The club already have a relationship with New Era and already carry a range of New Era merchandise. The simplest and easiest way to get this great idea realised and to the masses is through the club.

So who do we get in contact with?

http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/club/administration/staff

Ben Hurst - Head of Retail and Licensing
Dani DeBono - Retail Assistant

and potentially

Elly Siklic - Marketing Coordinator

I'd suggest Ben Hurst is our first port of call. It's just about someone here putting together a proposal to him that conveys the enthusiasm behind the idea from the supporters on this board. That's if he's willing to listen, ofcourse.

Another issue is that 98% of Port Supporters aren't going to recognise the "Ports" logo as something representative of the club on first look, so marketing around the release of the cap if it gets that far will need to be based around the 1912 member thingo.

I am IN if this is a small-batch, BF thing. If we are going to mass produce them through the club I am not interested. Half the appeal of the hat was the story behind it (e.g. designed and produced by a small group of BF tragics). If it is just another piece of merch, meh.
