We played shit last night, we're all aware. No need to keep telling everyone.

Just wanted to clear all the crap on the Melbourne board at the moment and have a thread not based around Dean Bailey the leadership group or whatever else you want to bag. I'm sick of it, to be honest.

/rant

Jack Watts and Jack Trengove...well, we've been bagged for taking Jack Watts at 1, but this kid's got some confidence now. Taking overhead marks like it's easy and was probably our most impressive looking player last night. Extremely happy with how's he going at it. And JT is the next Jimmy Bartel - not tall, quick or flashy, but he reads the play well, is great overhead, has a great kick, and will be a star.

And kudos to Colin Garland for saving us on multiple occasions last night. A very valuable player now.

Best thing about last night was as it cut to an ad in between qtrs or halftime, Jack Watts pumping up his team mates like he gave a damn. Something I have been wanting from him for some time. Good to see. Oh and he got in some fist cuffs too which is good for him.

I like Tapscott even more now for his off the ball hit. Don't care if he gets suspended, at least some opposition will fear him. We need more of this.

That was actually the single thing I took out of this game. Watts was actually wrestling respectably and not looking scared, also sticking up for his team-mate. He needs more of that so that it builds his confidence. If he can get some permanent aggression into him, his career will really take off.

Jurrah, had an non-event game, ball didn't go near him. But at least he had the confidence and brains to go get his own ball, and actually did a couple (literally a couple i know) of good things the few times he got it. No Jurrah bashing, the kids did what he could.

Ironically the best delivery to our forward line came from Jurrah. It's pathetic that he had to go down the ground just to get a touch.

Well done Eth, good thread...

The main thing I want/wanted to hear was that the players are hurting from that display last night... Yet to hear this

The players know what they need/are instructed to do, but sometimes it just don't happen the way it is supposed to... They all were still trying, but when you are 2nd to the ball or getting a crap bounce here or there, you will always look slow or lacking ability...

You know things are going bad when one of your key players trips over his own feet ( made me laugh big time), how often is that going to happen again, never probably...

This coming week gives all at the club a chance to redeem themselves (some changes will be made for sure), the coach should take the helm in the coaches box & send one of his apprentices down to the bench for experience...

Ricky P, will surely be in the side this week & play deep with Davey close by, Wattsy might finally stop being ignored when leading & Morton might actually kick through the ball, like he used to instead of poking at it... If these things happen we will start to get back on track...

Remember, all of the powers that be have stated that this year will be a roller coaster ride, stay strong...

Demon Revival - a couple of tweets for you:

Nathan Jones - Shattering! Up there with the worst loss I've been involved in! Can't argue with any of you... We need to work harder to turn it round!

Col Sylvia - I agree with all ur tweets we embarrassed ourselves 2nite, very disappointing - I know were better then what we produced 2nite!!!

A bit of acknowledgement that what was served up was pure shite.

I was going to bump the Positive Percy thread today, that game is over, let's see what was wrong and work on it. No point lamenting. They've now got til next Sunday to get things right.

Also, West Coast, whilst they won't trouble the top 4, will trouble everyone else. We're always shit at Subi, it's pretty much a 5 goal head start guaranteed (see 2009 and 2010 games).

What needs to happen over the next 9 days:

1) They watch that game EVERY DAY. Drill it into the players so that they know what was done wrong.
2) Unleash Plan B (Does this exist?). Our kickouts are shit - almost every kick went to the right, 25 metres uncontested, otherwise 50 metres contested. We're just too slow too.
3) The zone from the opposition kickouts. Bloody obvious that whilst we were setting zones, LeCras, Kennedy and Darling were standing by themselves in the forward half of the centre square. Our extra men were in our forward 50 marking space. West Coast went long all but 3 - 4 (?) kickouts - and most of those resulted in one of their forwards uncontested in the front half. Back to the drawing board on that one.
4) Whilst we had a loose player in defence, they had a bloke running around in the midfield, meaning most contests were 3 on 2, 4 on 3, etc. Hence we were smashed in the clearances.
5) Make 1 or 2 forwards stay in the forward half FFS!! Players were getting the ball on the wing and having no-one in front of them...

Good enough start?

All is not lost, as long as the relevant issues are addressed.

Oh, and dock players $20.00 each time they fall over under no pressure. Make this a donation back to the club. Probably end up a few grand each week if they dish out anything like that again...

A positive for Bailey?

1) actually put jack in the goal square for the last quarter.
2) took some chances to get us back into the game (very unbailey like haha).

I was really encouraged to see Watts looking angry. I think he had our first possession and it was a tall leap mark overhead with no fumble.

Trengove was everywhere.

Morton's disposal reminded me of Simon Godfrey's disposal lol

Watts pick up on left forward wing under a bit of pressure and banged it on the left to Stef Martin. Jizzed.

Ironically the best delivery to our forward line came from Jurrah. It's pathetic that he had to go down the ground just to get a touch.

Jurrah had 6 Indise 50's, the highest for any Demon. Says a lot! It was so mouthwatering was it at the first bounce: "Jurrah one out with Glass in the F50". Then of course we only 3 I50's for the quarter and most of them were the Eagles transferring play!!!!

Was happy with his game and his attitude as a player is excellent. Will shine when we get the ball in there.

Clint Bartram along with Garland were the only two actually defending, Bartram really has come along and looks like promising prospect did when he debuted.

Also the fight of Mark Jamar, the man fights like theres no tomorrow.

The skills of Watts and Trengove in the wet were very classy, hopefully they keep it going.

Yeah spot on with Bartram. Terrific all night, and didn't give up at all!

Bartram and Garland both played incredibly well, when you consider that 90% of the game was played in our defensive half.

Trengove looked fantastic. Watts played probably his best game for the club, and looked absolutely shattered (as all the boys did) at the final siren.

Other Positives?

* It will be hard to play that bad again.
* Our game plan was once again exposed for the shit it is which means we are one week closer to dropping it.
* We have Scully to come back into the side, and if he's improved over the pre-season half as much as Trengove has... we'll have a pretty dangerous midfield.

Showing some love for Colin Garland. On a night of few positives he stood up. Lets hope he can continue to do so.

If Garland ends up a better player than Chip Frawley, I will be quite the happy Demon.

1)Bartram, Bail, Garland, Jones have all taken their games to a new level.
2)Some very good performances at VFL level.
3)Mckenzie is training again :)

Another, more superficial positive is that, chances are - we will stay in the 8 this week (we'll be 8th, but that doesn't really matter). Bulldogs will be at a stretch to beat the pies and the Tigers would have to win by a helluva lot to beat our percentage. So yeah, all is definitely not lost this season.
