I have a small bowl on my coffee table. Keys go in there as soon as I get in the door.
Also have a set place for keys, wallet etc.

99.9% or the time it's effective.

Very occasionally I put something down in the wrong spot or leave it in a pocket and panic like a mother****er

I had one for a while but it never e worked properly and then the battery ran out. Bluetooth is teh suck.
calling my phone from a Tile is a bit hit-and-miss, but other way around has always worked fine for me

changing the batteries every few months is a bit annoying, but at least once a week I'm grateful to have them

I am particularly scatterbrained though, found my wallet in the freezer the other week

Haha . I lost my keys years ago . Yep next day found them in the freezer.

From two and a half years ago:

Daughter lost her car key and had to use the spare. I inherited the car after I lost my job and had to sell mine.
I found the key down the back of the sofa a year later. Didn't work any more. Soft drink had been spilled on it, the insides were manky, the battery was flat. Cleaned and put a new battery in. Dead as a doornail. ****ed if I was going to pay $400 for a new one at the dealer, or $150 for one on ebay with no guarantees.
So for the last six years I have manually locked and unlocked the car.
A couple of nights ago a random youtube video popped up in my feed at 1am. Mazda key problems? How to recode your key. Yeah bullshit.

Let the dog out for a pre-bedtime pee, thought farkit and hopped in the car. Ignition on and off three times, open and close the drivers door three times.

Bloody thing worked straight away.
I hate technology.

Are you pregnant?

Talking about the whole losing key thing at work yesterday- a colleague had lost her car key at an outdoor market. (only key to the car as well- no spare) retraced her steps like 5 times all over the market. Finally went down to the road to the local police station- which was closed due to it being a Sunday- and there was the key on the doorstep. Obviously a member of the public put it there. Nice to know there are some good ppl still around.

Years ago lived in a group house and one of the boys lost his key to his Subaru. He had a spare but the problem was every time he unlocked it, for some reason the alarm he had in it would go off. It was a horrible sounding alarm haha. Neighbours loved his early starts.

Anyway, this went on for months, until one night I was cooking dinner and was looking for something in the back of the pantry and low and behold right up the back was the key. One of the other house mate had put it there when there was a party on at the house and had totally forgotten he’d put it there for safe keeping’s 😂

I've also habitized a similar thing and effectively solved for "lost-wallet/keys/etc" 99.9% of the time.
It's actually the 0.1% that brought me to this thread today.

Does anyone have good recommendations for men's wallets?

Coming down with the 'flu Friday and was a bit vague which resulted in said wallet going through the washing machine. Was a 15+ year old Oroton, so getting ratty and owed me nothing, but is completely buggered now.

I like a nice wallet, but I think I'm going to try and move away from bifold in back pocket stereotype to help my back. I've got a 4 card billfold from Bellroy (I think) which I like, but I don't think it's quite up to 100% everyday service. I'm thinking an 8 card trifold or similar, but don't really know brands.

Typically what I carry is:
  • Drivers licence (I wish these could be digital in Vic)
  • Medicare card
  • Private health insurance card
  • Everyday expenses debit Visa
  • Vices debit Visa
  • Swipe card for apartment building access
  • Small amount of cash (no coins)
  • Spare "emergency" $50 tucked out of sight.

What's a good wallet that people like?

ETA: now that I've written out the requirements, I'm struck that I might be better served making process changes. Both the debit Visas are in Apple Pay. I just need to retrain myself to pay with phone. Pretty sure I can get digital Medicare and Insurance cards into iOS wallet. So that just leaves licence, prox card and cash, which the billfold can handle. But I'd still want some sort of "card storage device" so they're not just floating loose in a drawer. Nice one too preferably?
