Few years in nice weather, large salary and zero expectations to do well in that graveyard of a sporting city.

He's been there 6 years and they are still in a similar spot.

In 2020, they finished 14th. They are now 13th. How long should he get to improve them?

Hardwick took 6 years to do anything at Richmond and it was less him and more that Dusty just came of age.

Hardwicks not going to do anything at Gold Coast so if that's the grand plan, this thread will just be bumped in 3-4 years rofl.

I’m not pro sacking coaches by any stretch but he’s been there an eternity.

In his time yes they’ve improved but nowhere near enough to justify keeping him on as senior coach.

As is the case with most things that club does though, wrong execution.

The cynic in me is wondering if the timing is by design as most teams have a little boost around coach departures and interim replacements.

2 weeks ago they were 7-7 and in contention for finals (hence the public rhetoric of "full support of the Board"). 2 bad losses and it looks in jeopardy again so make the announcement now in the hope it ellicits the extra 10% to get some wins that might sneak them in.

(Remembering, that this is from the perspective that Caro's mail was correct and they were intending to move on from Dew regardless and the above circumstances simply dictated the timing of the announcement).

That's not really correct. Hardwick showed genuine improvement each year. Starting in 2010 with 6 wins (73%), then 8 (86%) and 10 (111%). Made finals in his fourth season with 15 win season and for the follwing two seasons before the 2016 season, which was a disaster, but forced a re-set. Rest is history.
