Thoughts On The Port Game

As for the Crow supporter in Bay 142 a couple of rows behind me calling the Crows soft, you are a tool of the highest order ... & stay away from future games as we don't want your "support"

Where were you sitting Kane? There was a guy next to me who wouldn't stop bagging the boys all night. I would've loved to give him a piece of my mind but the game was too intense to give him any attention.

Wow that was the best game that I have ever attended. The atmosphere after Bassett was knocked out was the loudest and most ferocious I have ever seen at AAMI Stadium.

Has there ever been a better defensive unit in AFL/SANFL/VFL history? Bock, Truck, Bassett, Johncock and Mcleod are simply awesome to watch.

Jericho, Porplyzia and Vince were all courageous to come back on after receiving heavy knocks during the game. I was surprised Massie didn't come back on as he was moving a lot more freely than Jericho who looked in a world of pain in the 2nd half. Much respect to Doughty also for the way he is playing out of his skin atm (has he gained a yard of pace this year?)

Port's overreaction to being labeled soft, by coming out and belting unsuspecting players was simply filthy sportsmanship. Thomas, Brogan and Pettigrew are laughably untalented but are in the team to hurt people because Port can cover for them being suspended rather than a Cornes or a Burgoyne. Still, what made me ever madder was the 'Outer Army' jeering Bassett when he went down. How would they f_____ like to be spear tackled?

Sucked in for losing you dirty, gutless pack of f_____ c___. 119 forever!!!

PS Chad Cornes, I loved your celebrations. Next time, make sure you have won the match before you have a go at opposition supporters. Loser

i posted what i thought were rather "tame" comments on the Port board but they have disappeared.

can someone tell me how and if i am able to view what i actually did write there please?

Get Mad Dog to extract them from the mods deleted threads board on the BF mainframe. ;)

It's where all deleted posts/threads go. Other than that, well, Do you know how to manipulate a mainframe? Murray was an expert at it, always manipulating the main frame like a scally wag. But he's long gone.

You have to laugh at how biased Cornes Snr and his buddy are on AA.

Why do people think Chad is a dirty player?

What is different about his after goal celebrations compared to everyone else?

Gee, i dunno, but everyone else in the league can see it. It's not because of his undoubted ability as a player that he is disliked. Or even any percieved toughness. Not too many people hate blokes like Jon Brown but everyone except PAPs vehemently dislike c cornes.

Also, they cannot see what was wrong with the Thomas tackle or his consistently dangerous technique seen throughout the match. If it is soooo unavoidable that blokes tackled from that angle will smack their head into the turf then why doesn't it happen each and every week in similar situations. Hmmm. Anyone notice when Bass was out cold Thomas gave him a further push and a little 'Ivan Drago' style grimace.

11 possessions, 4 frees against as a running player. Pfft. The great depth of the Power list:rolleyes: Almost no other club is so reliant on their senior stars than Port. Take out C Cornes and S Burgoyne and they would be a consistently bottom 4 side as 9 times out of 10 they are the only blokes who can stand up when they are down during a match. When they do nothing, stand by for the thrashing! I cannot believe people say their list is so deep and better than ours. A bunch of front running outside seagulls who only fly in to snipe is not exactly a good football team.

oh BTW, write here what you remember you wrote and i'll give you a partially unbiased opinion of if they were right to remove them or if they still have sand in their vagina after yesterday :)

That extra nudge just further shows that he had the intent on burying Basset... that alone was a dirty act as even blind freddy could already see he was knocked out cold and not moving. My main problem with the Thomas tackle was the slinging motion he did, basset had already got rid of the ball (thomas surely would have known this, a player can always tell whether the other player has the ball or not, even if they arent looking directly) it was just unnecessary and avoidable, the tackle would have been perfectly ok if he had just continued and "dragged" him down of soughts. But thomas went that little bit too far in the tackle. Pretty dirty stuff, not sure if its reportable though but the tribunal is always unpredictable.

Some were comparing thomas' tackle with picketts last year... thomas' was far worse, picketts was a very hard tackle but it was just momentum that made it bad, picket didnt actually try and slam cornes down like thomas.

with regards to cornes, how about his overzealous carrying on after a goal in the SECOND QTR! Would've been ok in the 4th quarter to put your team up by 2 points with 30 seconds to go but not in the second quarter! Just making a knob of himself again lol.

If Mattner had rolled both players to the side, both Harvey and Crawford wouldnt have missed 12+ weeks of football with broken arms. He pinned the arms from behind and put his full weight on them going forward. Both players landed on their front. Both players couldnt defend themselves. Both players ended with season ending injuries at Round 10.

i don't what you base that on?

No case to answer for Brogan, Pettigrew and Thomas. Let's see a one-line quip to that, Crow-mo/ducky :p :D :thumbsu:

true :thumbsu: i remember the Harvey incident well. i also remember that if the umpire had blown the whistle earlier when being tackled by two players, he never would've been thrown to the ground leading to a second knee reconstruction.

both of Thomas' attempts - tackle on Bassett and bump on Porpz were legitimate and within play...and though i hope he gets at least a 1 week suspension for what he did, i doubt he will. he's more of just a curse... seems to injure players a lot, esp Crows players... Hentschel, Bassett and Porpz.

Brogan on the other hand...bumps on Edwards and Jericho seemed less legitimate and just an attempt to take them out of the game.

nothing wrong with Chad Cornes celebrations; they're just premature; ie 2nd quarter celebration when leading the game by a small margin compared to no celebration after a goal, but still trailing (3rd or 4th quarter). his celebrations aren't as bad as Tredrea's bow to the crowd though... also comes to mind; Scott Welsh would bring out his celebrations after one of his easy straight in front set shot junk goals (when the game is already won).

not sure if i think he's a dirty player, but i do think was looking for fights during that match. when corralled over the boundary line; he grabbed the crows player and got into a tussle. the crows player corralled him and barely touched him. didn't look like Cornes was provoked either; just frustrated.

and yes i noticed Thomas pushed down on an unconscious Bassett while getting up, did not seem at all concerned about what had happened and walked away casually...the first point, i think a lot of players do, especially aggressive types; the latter point, i thought he should at least feel bad about what had happened.

I think recent history teaches us is that recieving no punishment is a far greater indication of guilt than being suspended! :o:p

The only reply needed:

Adelaide 2.3 (15) 4.8 (32) 8.11 (59) 12.13 (85) 12.13 (85)
Port Adelaide 2.3 (15) 4.7 (31) 7.12 (54) 11.13 (79) 11.13 (79)

How many Port fans thought Goodes should have been rubbed out last week??

The whole world saw the Goodes elbow to the head with the exception of the tribunal.

Your boys should count their blessings that this week was obviously another can't be fkd week by the review panel.

Don't worry mate I Just got a warning For Telling the Port Posters to Stop Giving Chad cornes best on Ground when he clearly wasn't on the big footy medal board

the loss must of cut deep!

I would like to know why Port didn't employ the same aggressive tactics in the last couple of showdowns leading up to yesterdays game. Would they have employed the same tactics if hard nuts Roo, Hudson, Bodey, Mattner and Torney were still in a Crows guernsey? Surely they can't be that cowardly can they?

Actually agree Springy, I was fascinated to not that Port never tried that crap with Ricciuto around ...

I suppose they learnt their lesson at the Ramsgate.

Also, can someone explain to me why the always play their ________ receivers (Cornses, Burgoynes, Pearce) instead of their hard at the ball midfielders (Logan, Thomson) against us? It's bizarre!

So its open season now - late hits, charging and spear tackles are all part of the game. Mind you, after what Minson got away with a few weeks ago you would need to actually hospitalise someone to get a game.

Agree with Burgoyne and Peace but Chad was the leading contested possesion winner on the ground, not really a receiver.

It's always interesting to see what people post on their own board, then on other clubs boards.

Hey everyone.
I wrote a report in about 20 minutes about the showdown because I love my footy and want to be a football journalist when I'm older.

I'll just post it here as I am not able to start a thread until tomorrow.
Any responces will be appriciated:)

Crows Hold On, Again!
Round 3

On Sunday evening, South Australia was pumped for the rivalry round. The last game of round 3 was one of the biggest, Adelaide vs. Port Power, the showdown.

The odds going against Port Power but they still had as big as a chance as the crows as they had something to prove after being named “soft”. Adelaide also wanted to prove they are as good as the Power hoping and the showdown scores to be tied at 12 all as they are one behind in the tally.

The showdown became a sell out a few days before game day.

When the day arrived, Adelaide’s weather was perfect for footy, a bit of wind with the sun shining. Thousands of people came early to either go the Crows shed or socialise with friends and family with a BBQ.

When the clock stroke 4.00, AMMI Stadium was already packed with eager fans awaiting for the match to begin. When the Power entered the ground a chant of boo’s circled the ground with a bit of background cheering. Then Adelaide entered the ground and the crowed when mental! Thousands of flags being waved and claps of joy surrounding the ground.

The game started of neck to neck with the first quarter scores being 2.4.15 each. David Rodan and Shaun Burgoyne a goal each for Port Adelaide and Richard Douglas and Simon Goodwin each scoring a goal for the Adelaide Crows.

Again in the second quarter the game was a hard battle with Port Adelaide knocking a few Crows players to the ground. Daniel Motlop is in doubt of playing next week after a big knock on Scott Thompson. Matt Thomas also pushed Nathan Bassett in the back heavily for him to come off the ground in a stretcher.

With only about 20 seconds on the clock with the scores tied at 31 a piece, Port Adelaide kept the ball in possession just kicking it back and forth. Adelaide kept the pressure tight to force Port to rush a behind letting Adelaide leading the main break by a point.

3 quarter time begun with both teams with nothing to loose started the quarter fantastically; especially by the Crows. Adelaide defended wonderfully and broke the biggest lead of the game to 3 goals. In the last 8 minuted Port came back with 2 quick goals still allowing Adelaide to still be in front by a goal. The low scoring game was still tight at Adelaide 8.11.59 to Port Adelaide 7.11.53.

The last quarter began. The lights shone on AMMI Stadium for the last quarter was twilight. Lots of bashing and hitting came into the game with also two great recoveries from the Adelaide Crows. Luke Jericho came back on the ground after being smashed to the ground by Toby Thurstons and Jason Porplyzia after dislocating his shoulder after a huge bump from Matt Thomas came back onto the ground. Adelaide again stretched the lead to 3 goals but again Port came back in the dying last minutes of the game. Shaun Burgoyne with a snap only made Adelaide 2 goals in front but then with 5 minutes to go Daniel Motlop did a monster kick from just inside 50 on a 45% angle to keep Port in with a chance.

From the centre bounce Port rushed a kick into their 50 but Adelaide without nerves stood up in the defence and settled it down. With 2 minutes to go a wonky kick hovered towards Adelaide Crows midfielder Michael Doughty but didn’t reach him and it was a ball up near Powers 50. Again Port bombed the ball into their 50 but the big Ben Rutten took a sensational mark and Adelaide kept possession of the ball.

With 2 seconds to go Mcleod had the ball in his hands and the serein went. He threw the ball high and celebrated with his team mates.

The final score being Adelaide Crows 12.13.85 Port Power 11.13.79 and Adelaide making the showdown wins tied at 12 a piece.

Young Bernie Vince only playing his 13th game for the Adelaide Crows won the showdown medal.

Port Adelaide have lost all 3 matches this year so far and Adelaide only losing one out of 3.

Next week Adelaide take on Hawthorn in Tasmania as for Port Power play Brisbane at AMMI.
