On Stringer... it belongs in another thread, so I'll keep it short. I'm not "really worried" about it, but he's had a rubbish year, and going forward I don't think he's the type of player we thought he'd be. He's more likely to be Cyril Rioli than Jesse Hogan or Nick Riewoldt.

Hoping more for a more powerful and skillful version of Dangerfield myself, but he has a lot work to do to get there.

He blunted a major opposition advantage, and did so virtually on his own for 3/4 of the game. Mumford was a complete non-factor last night, which not many people were predicting before the first bounce.

He is a work on progress and is a long way from the finished article, but his workrate in the 3 finals has been second to none.
"Second to none"?

Really?

Have you considered Mumford just didn't play a good game (he's over-rated anyway).

Can you not ******* read?

Or are you just trolling now?

Lets revisit my post.

To summarise, cos apparently that's too many words for you to comprehend, hit outs are a ******* useless stat, as demonstrated by the fact that they were smashed in clearances despite the hit out advantage.

Boyd won every one of the most important stats for ruckmen, sans possibly tackles (depending on how much people rate tackling in ruckmen.)

Now **** off, you don't know what you're talking about.

At the end of the day, everyone who is following the thread now knows you as the guy that thinks supercoach points are the best measure of how well someone plays.

Everyone following this thread will see that you're a petulant tool that can't handle someone disagreeing with his opinion without hurling personal insults.

So far in this thread you've called me a 12 year old, a dickhead and a troll just because I have a different opinion to you.

I would say those labels would more accurately describe yourself.

That might be one of the better posts I've seen in this thread from those questioning Boyd.

As I've made clear in this thread, I think people are MUCH too harsh on a 3rd year player, and people are MUCH too focused on his pay packet and not his development.

But his marking is the question mark I keep coming back to as well, and it's the one facet of his game that I believe gives "haters" a genuine reason to be critical. (To be clear, I'm not putting you in that boat.)

As I said I earlier today, I don't reckon anyone in the league gets hit in the face/head in marking contests as much as Boyd does, and if he can ever hold onto a mark with his face it'll be the best thing I've ever seen.

I'm not a doctor or a physio, but I doubt his shoulder has a lot to do with his marking, cos it was a problem last year as well. I think he just hasn't quite learned how to mitigate his concrete hands in a match situation yet. I still think it'll come though.

I think someone posted it waaaaay back in the thread, but I completely agree with it...

Look at Boyd when leaping for marks, he's jumping half a second early at the contested / pack marks. Never taking it at his highest point. Always on top of a defender and / or coming down from his jump. Very hard to take grabs this way against big, strong defenders. Probably got away with it in his junior days when he was bigger than everyone else. Needs to work on his judgment of ball flight.

But on the topic of his performance last night, he was semi-great. Better than good, not great. Big step though.

A number of Bulldogs supporters thought that Liam Jones is a better player than Rhys Stanley, they aren't the best judges of football ability.

....and some Saints supporters considered Billings superior to Bontempelli, should we be equally disparaging about their judgement?

Nil-all draw?

Stanley has been a regular player in a top 4 team, Liam Jones is struggling to get a game in a bottom of the ladder team that has a dearth of key forwards,

Pretty obvious that Stanley has won the points in that battle.

Well I can't argue that Billings is superior to Bontempelli at present but both are early on in their careers so there's a lot to play out yet.

Nah, I doubt it.

I reckon they'd see me as intolerant of fools who act as the bastion of all knowledge while trying to defend a post that demonstrated clearly that said fool doesn't know what he/she is talking about.

At the end of the day, you've spent this thread defending your view that supercoach points are a better measure of a players performance than their stats are. Quit while you're behind sunshine, I'm about to lap you.

You might have won the argument in your own head but that doesn't match with reality, there are just as many indicators that Mumford played a better game than Boyd as vice versa whether you want to acknowledge that or not.

Lol. Billings is an oversized seagull in a human body.

He was a matchwinning oversized seagull against you last year.

And yet, you've been unable to identify a single indicator demonstrating that Mumford was better than Boyd.

Apart from the ridiculous supercoach "indicator" of course.

Yeah apart from hitouts, tackles and marks but it's not like those indicators are important or anything.

Thought Boyd was great last night. Still can't believe the hate, it's becoming laughable now. His contract is front ended and has had no effect on our cap, and in return the Giants got Griffen who was non-existent last night and marchbank who is off to the Blues. Move on people, it's boring now.

He could end up being an absolute dud (unlikely) but if you win a flag next week it would still be a great trade...

I thought he was great. Big ask as a young player to carry the load on your own against one of the most imposing players in the comp. Took the job on, and did some things most football observers wouldn't notice at times when the Dogs looked in strife. His ruck play improved as the night went on also.
