I've just had a revelation. Tom Derickx, who has never played a senior game, could be a very important player for us.

ATM we have 2 tall forwards that have cemented positions in our team
- Jack and Vick

We need a third forward, maybe someone who can play ruck aswell to give Vickery more forward time
- Tom Derickx

If Maric doesn't turn out to be a great ruckman, we decide to send Vickery in as first ruck and Griffiths lives up to the hype; we still need a second ruck/third forward
- Tom Derickx

If Maric doesn't turn out to be a great ruckman and Vickery proves to be too good of a forward to play first ruck, we need a ruckman
- Tom Derickx

And last but not least, if our team sheet looks boring, we need someone with a cool name
- Tom Derickx

how much more time does vickery need forward as it is. bloody hell he must spend 80 90% of his time forward as it is.

if you want to find a forward how about we actuallly play one like astbury or griffiths and actually give a genuine ruckman/forward just a little more time in the ruck.

if derickx can force maric out of the team great after all tom is a RUCKMAN.

I think his best position is as a ruck forward just like Vickery.

OP is wrong. Griggs is a ruckman, he is the key, and it's pissing people off. (sorry bud, but i actually disagree, he has to get some form in the vfl before i actually rate him. There seems to be a bit of Def Leppard about this bloke).

You are right ' there is quite a bit of Hysteria about this guy and it's probably making him paranoid . If anyone I'd down at training can you see if Hardwick gives him a rocket because he needs to perform this year.

yep the good ol tigerhead off season thread....a player who has relatively speaking in career terms, played 2 minutes of footy, all of a sudden is the key to the fate of an AFL team...just like a truck load of others were before him, who are now either playing in suburbia or are carpenters or used car salesmen.

Lets first see if he can cut it at VFL level for a sustained period, before we move on to dominating for a sustained period at VFL level, which leads to cutting it for some periods at AFL level, which leads onto cutting it for sustained periods at AFL level, which might lead onto dominating for some periods, which might lead into dominating the AFL comp for sustained periods..before we can hail the KEY.

Its quite comical when for 99% of the developing ruckmen who get a run in the 1s and get their arses ripped, the get out clause is, he needs time to develop, but when we latch onto a ruckman who we really havent seen all to much of in the 1s and in the 2s, they automatically become the KEY.;)

Taking a look at our current genuine ruck options reckon there's still far too many ifs regarding our current stocks to fell confident at all moving forward (ages are at the start of next season).

Maric 200cm 102kg 25yo - Competitve but couldn't get a game for the Crows. 200cm is right at the bottom end for a ruckman especially if you not a genuine shout as a damaging forward. Pretty much in his prime already.

A Graham 201cm 102kg 25yo - The guy will be 25 and he just doesn't look as though he's going to make it or even that he wants to.

T Derickx 201cm 99kg 24yo - Really all that we know is that he showed a bit at Claremont and few flashes in a NAB cup game. Not ruling him out but has a loooong way to go.

A Browne 203cm 105kg 21yo - Probably our best hope as a pure ruck option. Good size, and has show a bit at AFL level for a 19-20yo ruck. Definitely seems to want it, but yet to really dominate a full game so definitely some doubts.

T Vickery 200cm 95kg 21yo - Showed a lot as a power forward, but has never really dominated in the ruck. If he's spends significant time out of the forward line then we're really hurting our structure. Good back up on what we've seen so far.

Enough there to be competitive, but we are a long way off having a dominant ruck brigade. Either someone has to take a massive step up soon, we have to draft very well very soon, or we're going to have to trade in an experienced ruck at some stage. Reckon option 3 is the most likely.

tom played an excellent season year before last despite having very limited experience before that, he was plucked from obscurity by claremont from down margaret river way and had an excellent 2010.

so he has some state league form behind him already, i have very high hopes for him as a specialist ruckman, has all the tools

Jokes aside I actually reckon he will be our no.1 ruckman at some stage and could be somewhat of a revelation in the next couple of years. Great contested marking ability.

i really have to chuckle at this. it really is now thinking rather than when we can challenge thinking.
where did we finish this yr with no decent rucks as the most glaring pitfall.

if the team came first especially when the team may be capable of challenging the long term vision has to be vickery in the ruck.

club has said on several occassions Ty will be our ruck longer term, but they are phasing him in as he continues to put on bulk. I'd be expecting him to be the main ruck in about 3 years
