According to this we're keen on Armstrong from the Crows. I know next to nothing about the lad. Anyone care to give their two cents?

Young aboriginal lad who played a few good games in defence for the crows this year. His best being against us when we beat the at Etihad stadium, I think he had something like 30 disposals across half back (mind you I could have got them that night they way they chipped around)

number 38 for the crows, pretty quick, good skill, lightly built but reads the play pretty well.
Probabaly around the 6 ft mark and has a fair bit of upside... but I'm not really sure why we are chasing a contracted player? perhaps he is close with Lindsay?

I doubt it.

Is from Burrumbuttock, up near Albury.

Boarded from 7-12 at Assumption College in Kilmore, so he's essentially a Melbourne boy.

Got in trouble for drink driving a couple of weeks ago.

Was being groomed for the McLeod role, not sure they would let him go.

Hawks stepping up their campaign to get Hale this morning - I reckon we are in a awesome position to get some really good draft picks.

I reckon we are gona look back on these two drafts and be grateful we lost Gibson and Hale - because they have clearly been regarded higher due to the needs of the other clubs and we are getting some real talent from these trades.

Armstrong goes very well indeed, was flying before that off field indiscretion, I don't think he really captured his form from the middle of the year. I am suprised they would even field enquiries about him, Crows have some big wraps on him. One would hope it is not a mental/discipline issue...

Sorry to keep sounding like Negative Nellie, but could he (i.e. is there a slight chance that he will) blossom into a Brian Lake, James Hird, Chris Grant-type or is the best we can expect another serviceable to good player like Azza.

In other words, are we giving up an opportunity to fluke an A-grader for the near certainty of getting, at best, another good ordinary player?

If so, I'll take the longshot every day of the week.
Exactly. Pick 69 is very important. But seriously I agree. :serious look that is stern

Mate of mine, actually from Brocklesby exactly 13 km down the road.

Played very very well in the middle part of the season, but seemed to be given little opportunity (getting dropped after a very good 28 odd possession game, when your team is at the bottom of the ladder doesnt make sense to me for a 20 year old kid.)

His indescretion I know was definitely out of character and I would not hold one mistake against someone. Although if you see the Adelaide board and their over reactions to the incident it would seem in South Australia no one has ever made a mistake in their lives.

Would be a very good addition (for me price wouldnt matter) but what would you feel is fair and what would you be willing to give up?

When was the last time we fluked an A grader with any pick?
Champions at pick 69 are a thing of the past with that much science going into the draft research.
Now look. Maybe picking up a champion at pick 69 is out of the question but the way I see it every pick is important. N Grima and Spud may not be "A Graders" but both were picked up as rookies and both are what I would consider to be good footballers. Yeah and lets not forget that Ben Warren was picked up at pick 69. :stern look

What are you on about? Warren was off the rookie list & has now been delisted. I think it's best you just cough for me.

As far as I know it was Warren Benjamin not Ben Warren

Warren, Benjamin is still with us.

Warren Benjamin has been invited to continue his career elsewhere.

Sarah Murdoch announced it at the Syd.

We seem likely to gain Mickenley services with the blues pulling out

MOst interesting trade roumour i saw was Core and Stokes for eagles pick 4

West Coast will do the right thing by him hopefully, being there for 4 years, they will send him to us for pick #69.

I don't think Carlton will go for him. Maybe either one of Spangher or Gamble or both.

The Dogs would surely have their hearts set on Sherman and perhaps Djerrkura, leaving us for Ben.

Is that yesterday's news Davo99?

Just said on foxs sports bud that Carlton have givin up on him and are looking at Gamble or Spanger with us now being the most likely destination

I thought the Doggies were after him?

Why do we even need Mckinley -he seems a bit one dimensional and with a huge emphasis on forward pressure these days we cant have to many talls in the forward 50.

Jesus.

His defensive pressure is much better than that of Warren and Edwards - our primary medium forwards. Averaged more tackles than both of them this year, and has markedly improved his defensive pressure.

People keep imagining this kid in the mould of Warren and Edwards, but because he isn't on North's list, he is 'worse'. He can take a grab, can kick goals (potential for big bags, which I haven't seen from Wazza and Azza), he isn't overly slow like some would suggest; I would say he is average pace, maybe even quicker on the lead. He is certainly no slower than our two medium forwards. In addition people seem to think he is so impossibly slow that he can't tackle. See my above point, he averaged more tackles than both of our two medium forwards, despite West Coast's lack of inside 50s. Also, people seem to think that he isn't talented and has reached his ceiling. He is extremely talented as he showed with his bags and goal tallies in his first few years, he just haven't been given an opportunity this year, despite his form in the WAFL.

This kid is far from 'slow', he is far from 'extremely limited' and to be quite honest, just because he isn't on our list doesn't mean he is worse than our two medium forwards, in fact, I'd back him to kick more goals than the both of them playing in the same positions.

He ain't crap and he ain't limited. Pick #69 is an absolute bargain for a kid with that talent.

Sorry for the rant, but I'm sick of people calling this kid crap just because he hasn't been on our list from day one and they haven't seen much of him.

thank god someone sees what i see!!!

You dont agree?? I just dont know how you fit Hansen, Petrie, Edwards, Warren, Okeffe, Tarrant (Potentially) whilst trying to ensure the ball doesnt rebound from inside 50 with ease - it doesnt seem like its balanced.

Plus i dont think our medium to tall forwards are our weakness - our smalls are and our ability to get the ball inside 50 is a huge problem.

clearly our weakness is our ability to kick goals!
our top scorer this year kicked 28.
read the previous posts in the thread. everything that your saying has been said before.
bottom line: mckinley has and is capable of kicking 40 plus goals, may need to work on his mobility by shedding some pounds, but has the potential to be a very important power forward who can kick bags of goals in a game
