Well done Stephens. That was perfect. As good as someone has played all year. Just dismantled your friend mentally, physically and tactically. Just perfect.

If I wasn't on my phone, I would post a clapping gif. Just wonderful.

Thank you :)

I hate how the yanks do this. Just give them the mic and let the players give out a speech. You don't answer questions when someone wins a Oscar so why do it here. Let them do a victory speech. Let them thank their team and family. It is about them.

Yep. They've been doing it like this since forever. Plenty of evidence on Youtube. Just amateurish.

I like how we do it. We have the Kia guy, the tournament director and then we give the mic to the player.

I remember Wimbledon did a sort of a mixture. Not once did they(the us open) give the mic to the player, not even at the end. I feel sorry for Anderson tomorrow, where all his questions will be about Nadal, win or lose.

Hopefully we never do it. Just think of Hamish interviewing a winner. Or Basil. Oh god......

The whole sport is an "entertainment event" has come from the states and its one of the many things I don't like about their culture.

The post match process after a grand slam win is another example.

The final should be about the players, not a chance for an interviewer to have their 5 minutes of fame.

Did they remind us about their big prizemoney

I've noticed they do pre-match interviews before the players take to the court. I don't know if they've always done this at the USO or only since ESPN took over the broadcasting rights in 2015.

I remember it was tried at the AO years ago. Needless to say they turfed that idea pretty quickly. It's just overkill.

Lol @ 'the planets have aligned for Rafa to have him in Slam contention away from clay.'

Translation: Rafa has played f***ing awesome basically everywhere in 2017.

He continues to show that 9 times out of 10 he's too good for the second tier. Which leaves him 3 players to take care of (when everyone is at full tilt) and it's only ever going to be possible to play two of them. And one of them surely can't be too far away from retirement.

He can catch Federer.

Well done to Stephens, sounds like a comprehensive win! Didn't see the match, this whole tournament has been a disaster for me. Had to wait for the SBS coverage then hardly any matches I was actually able to watch. Should be able to watch the men's tomorrow though, go Kevin!!!

Still a job to do for Rafa, not getting too carried away yet. Let's not forget what happened against Wawrinka in the AO '14 Final...

Stan beat a red hot Novak earlier that tournament so it wasn't THAT big of an upset, Kevin winning this would be on another planet.

Final from 6am on ESPN and SBS.

Met four times previously, Nadal has won all encounters. The most recent was Barcelona this year. Rafa 6-3, 6-4.

Nadal $1.11
Anderson $7

He can catch Federer.

This is the cheapest slam in the modern era.

Only decent player he has had to beat is Del Potro who has been ill and came off two draining games against Thiem and Federer. He had nothing left.

Rafa will not win another slam off clay.

He has not been awesome everywhere in 2017. On clay he was sensational. Off clay he has lost to Kyrgios, Shapovalov, Muller & Querrey. These are not top players and they have hit him off the court. Again he has been lucky at the US open that the only player he has ran into that could emulate that style is Del Potro running on fumes. Rublev, Dolgopolov, Mayer, Daniel and Lajovic are all players that favour clay and couldn't hit through Rafa on hard. He couldn't have hand picked a better draw in his dreams.

He may catch Federer at 18 via the French, no chance he reaches to 20 which was the post I responded to.

He's made 5 finals on hard court, two at grand slams.
He's lost 9 matches this year (6 to players other than Federer), all of them bar 1, to players ranked in the top 24.

Maybe they aren't world beaters. They are all world class, though.

Assuming - big assumption to make - he wins tomorrow, id say 6 titles, with 2 grand slams, and another grand slam final, would be considered a reasonable season and a hint that, perhaps, he has some ok tennis in him.
