In previous years Gourdis and Gaertner would have been picked up early but the fashion of the AFL draft changed this year.
Weaver still knows more about junior players than 99.9% of posters on here anyway and it is certainly no shame to get a few picks wrong in a phantom draft.
A large amount of these picks will be failures anyway, so even the AFL recruiters aren't perfect.
In 4 years Weaver's views could be right after all. I remember him saying Nathan Foley was underrated in his draft year when he didn't get picked up... I hope you didn't bag him back then for making THAT call

Wouldnt say under the radar, alot of people knew about him but didnt rate him super highly. He was in that group of guys generally though of in the 30+ bracket where 70 blokes were fighting for 30 draft positions. Freo rated him highly and all the best to them but the impression I get is Freo rated him higher than alot of other clubs. If you rate Smart's ability, you should be excited because by all reports he rated him pretty highly.

Seriously those of you who are having a go at others for their phantom drafts need to get a life. These guys put in a huge amount of effort to keep us informed, and I for one appreciated the info even if they werent perfect.
Let me be another poster to congratulate Weaver on his phantom draft, fantastic effort. When it comes to junior talent, no one - absolutely no one - has more depth and evidence to support their opinions.

5. Bulldogs - Dave Gourdis
Gourdis is the best key position player in the draft and certainly the best tall forward prospect. Dogs remain desperate for a marking option and Gourdis' style which is as a hit-up CHF like Tarrant will probably sit well with a team that likes to run. Gourdis is quick off the mark and has a huge motor. He is well built and an improving and long kick. He is a safe selection because even if flops up front he has a long career down back. That pace off the mark is the key. Lets him get separation on backmen, and gives him closing speed when he is defending. Unlike a few of the other touted bigmen he can actually kick a goal and finish-off his good play, but isn’t a selfish forward. Will coach-up well.

It was just an opinion...Weaver knows more about the juniors than most of us, and hey he still has a chance of becoming the best player in the draft, everyone still does! So yea leave it alone!
So basically anything you have to say on this forum is completely irrelevant.

I have to concur with much of what has been written in praise of Weaver's draft's. No-one is going to get it 100% right and I think Gourdis not getting drafted at all surprised many on this board, but to can Weaver for this is pretty poor form. Whether you agree or disagree with what Weaver write and the opinions he has at least have the decency to debate rather than sh*tcan someone's efforts.

He did not get one of the top 20 right!? Infact he got it so wrong that his picks 5, 9 and 19 didnt even get drafted!! not to mention picks 21, 23 and 29!!
I personaly thought this read was a waste of time. When certain posters such as weaver get a certain mistique and ora about them not matter what they post people are goin to applaud him. im sure there are plenty of people at home thinking the same as me but just dont want to say anything because in general the big footy public want to jump in the sac with weaver!!

Then don't read it... no one's going to go 100% on a phantom draft, so what's the point in reading any of them? It's not like someone's got a gun to your head forcing you to "waste your time".

If you read the reasoning behind Weaver,s phantom draft you might have a better understanding why it turned out so different.It was his opinion on who,where and why.Its pretty obvious the clubs themselves had different opinions.Who,s right who,s wrong?Who knows,We,ll find out in a few years time.

Would you have known ANYTHING about the players your club drafted if you didn't have posters like weaver filling you in?
Also, most phantom drafts are the order of merit the kids are in, not the order they will be drafted (if you can understand the difference). I won't guess on Weavers behalf which this one is.
...and by the way, that was the worst attempt at spelling 'aura' I have ever seen.

To be honest i generally read the phantom drafts for the different comments on the players and to see how different their views are to mine. The order is pretty much irrelevant for mine which is why i find most of the efforts with a bit of content in them a good read.
