West Coast accused of tanking vs Essendon

If they were trying to tank, why would they put in the effort to come back from 5 goals down in the first place?
Simpson would have made moves long before that to quell it if that was the case.

Bizarre theory

The commentaters saying he told his players no +1 in defence for the last minute.
My guess would be he would never want to instruct his players to tank so directly, but panicked in the moment because the WC upper mangement would rip his head clean off if they lose pick 1.

But again though, if the plan was to tank why put in the effort to get in front with a minute to go?

The game goes for 120+ minutes, not just the bit at the end

Maybe he got a phone call from above?

If he did it was still less obvious than an interchange infringement with 30 seconds left to go in a game

Didn't watch the game, but it says they got the winning goal from a centre clearance? So they wouldn't have been able to have an extra back anyway, no?

Less obvious? Yeah ok... what ever lets you sleep at night.
Don't really care, just happy it wasn't clarko telling his players no +1 in the last minute. The media fall-out would have been nuclear on North.

Teams lose by placing all their numbers back sometimes (which Essendon should have with decent umpiring). It is what allowed use to get an inside 50 in the final minute. This actually happens a bit.

Backing yourself to win the clearance is not bad coaching and not tanking.

Melbourne tanked when they lost after the siren according to everyone, so this isn't really much different.

(note - Melbourne did tank - but at selection, that game the players and coach were trying to win. Eagles clearly tanked, so did Carlton many times.)

The level of salt directed at us potentially getting pick 1 despite all the blatant manipulation by the AFL to ensure that their basketcase expansions or perennially povo VFL clubs get a continuous influx of all the best talent is outstanding.

how much did the AFL kick in to buy Melbourne their premiership? (yes, yes, we know, they also fined them for not tanking too)

Seems absurd to me. Apparently they haven't been training for that scenario but focussing on their core plan, so why wouldn't you back yourself to do what had got you into a winning position? They got to that point playing a certain way, they kept playing that way.
Sure, it didn't work out and a more experienced and better drilled side might have been in a position change their ways on a moment's notice.

Just more #VICBIAS

Why aren't these knobs questioning the two very dubious non-calls to Allen & Long at the top of the goalsquare which would've sealed the game?

Also, I've only seen one instance of Vic commentators bringing up the fact the umpire threw the ball over the rucks directly to an Essendon player which lead to Langford's goal.

How ******* desperate for clicks are these brainless morons?

Well, funnily enough, just prior to that Yeo actually got the ball forward and Allen was infringed but not paid, so the setup would've clearly worked if the umpire actually paid the obvious free kick.

Explain how the Eagles 'tanked'.

west coast and hawthorn have both been publicly accused of tanking this year now but north have not?

incredible
Yep and they're the only one with a rule infringement in the final minute to hand their opponent a free win.

Meanwhile the umpires go in raw on WCE in the final couple of minutes and we're the ones tanking??
