Not even close. Ablett had fewer possessions than Chris Langford. Calling him a midielder is just taking the piss.

The tale of the tape in the seasons that both Ablett and Langford played:

1984: Ablett 19.93, Langford 15.54
1985: Ablett 16.8, Langford 11.23
1986: Ablett 14.93, Langford 13.56
1987: Langford 14.57, Ablett 14.47
1988: Ablett 14.04, Langford 13.64
1989: Ablett 19.39, Langford 13.56
1990: Ablett 15.94, Langford 11.6
1991: Ablett 13.75, Langford 12.68
1992: Ablett 18.33, Langford 11.48
1993: Ablett 14.47, Langford 13.19
1994: Langford 12.17, Ablett 11.72
1995: Langford 13.28, Ablett 12.86
1996: Langford 14.57, Ablett 11.17

Apart from Ablett clearly averaging more disposals over their respective careers, Langford and Ablett played simultaneously in 13 VFL/AFL seasons. Ablett averaged more disposals in nine of them. Of the remaining four, Ablett won the Coleman Medal in two of them, was on track for 90+ goals (had he played the full season) in another and averaged 0.1 disposals less than Langford in the other.

None of this disputes the fact that Langford had more career disposals.

Or you can look at it another way, with ablett averaging fewer disposals than other 'midfielders' such as Stewart Loewe and John Blakey :D

Record for goals by a midfielder in a season though. 91.

Don't think there is such a stat. Given the split between forward and midfield play, it is incorrect to say it was solely as a midfielder.

The record for a non FF is 97 goals.

Leigh Matthews - 915 goals by a midfielder. Pencils down, everyone.

Leigh Matthews.....11 Goals in 1 Game as a rover: 1973 Vs Essendon! Also in 1981 Vs Melbourne...Though he played mainly in the forward pocket in that game!

Like to See Old KB Do THAT!...Not to Mention Gary Ablett Junior......Yeah.....Nah!!!

Just as incorrect to say that Daicos never played full-forward in 1990.

The term non full forward covers the odd game at full-forward, just as the term midfielder can cover time in the forward line.

Doesn't change the fact that Ablett had more career disposals than Allan. As did Mick Martyn.
If you're trying to convince us that you're obsessed and may have a screw or two loose, mission accomplished champ.

Now heading back to this place the rest of us inhabit that we like to call Reality, Ablett was a forward for most his career as is well-known by just about everyone.

A half forward, yes. It's not like a player goes from averaging 2.91 goals per game between the ages of 28-30 to averaging 5.85 goals per game between the ages of 31-33, without there being a pretty drastic shift in the way his team uses him.

1995 - Lockett's 29 consecutive goals without a behind across rounds 18-19-20-21, including 16.0 versus Fitzroy at the Whitten Oval.

The latter will not be broken.

I was at the game...it was bull sh*t.....complete and utter bull sh*t.

Also about that Fitzroy v Melbourne match in 79 can anyone find and post the quarter by quarter scores
And the Fitzroy goal scores? I think Fitzroy still has the biggest last quarter score from that match.

Highest score in a last quarter was South Melbourne in 1919 - were up 12.11 (83) to 2.6 (18) at 3/4 time and won 29.15 (189) to 2.6 (18).
