Wow, looks like I'll be getting even less sleep than I thought!
Will be well worth it though

Line looks massive

Got there at 6am and couldn't believe the size of the queue. Thought we'd miss out. In the end when we got our seats and left at about 8:30AM, people that were rocking up then could still get seats on the top level

According to radio there is still about 2,000 seats and standing room positions left at this stage.

Pretty disappointing if they can't fill the MCC section today.

Need to sell more reserved seats to members and get rid of this walk up crap on the day.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the deal once you have your seat? Do you just put a jumper or bag on it and can the get a passout and go home for a few hours; or do they give you a ticket denoting your seat, or does someone have to stay to mind them?

No they don't, it's already more than 50% reserved seats. The more reserved, the more chance you have of unaffiliated supporters being balloted tickets and going because it takes place weeks before we know who the Grand Finalist's are.
Walk ups were 95% Pies or Saints supporters this morning because they knew they had to get in early for a ticket/good seat.

It will fill up easily, they have 4 hours left to fill it and it's pretty much only standing room left. A lot will just walk up closer to the start time, why would they go now, they obviously aren't interested in a great seat so they might as well leave later in the day.
The Cats/Hawks game was virtually full yet people were saying the line this morning was considerably larger than it was that game.

The officials allocate you a ticket after you have claimed your seat, so you are free to take off.

Easily solved, have each member elect a team and hold two ballots.

One weeks out for members wanting to go for 50% of the tickets and then another ballot for the members who have elected one of the competing teams. Anything else is left for walk-ups on the day.

That way you maximise the attendance in the MCC and you are not left with a couple of thousand seats that could have been used by rank and file members of the competing clubs, because MCC members get scared off by the line or predictions of a lock out.

It's all about making sure that each seat is used on the day and that as many of the competing teams supporters get into the ground over the casual/corporate watcher.

Or they could just do they ballet after the preliminary finals.

It's completely random though, allocating more ballot tickets just means more chance of neutral supporters and less chance of die-hards getting in.
Even if they did it after the teams were known, most members would still nominate just to get their money's worth.

I'd prefer ballot tickets went to supporters whose clubs were involved. I'd have no problem giving up my ballot in years we weren't involved, if it meant I got one in the years we were. If they did it that way, then yeah, they should definitely allocate more reserved seats.

MCC via FB was saying most seats for the GF replay were technically allocated by about 12:20. It just took time to finalise the transactions via Ticketek.

The MCC have also said the huge demand has made it highly unlikely that restricted members will get a look in this week. Listen to the radio about 10am on Saturday for confirmation though.

For the record, neither this year's or the 2008 GF were lock outs. The seats for last Saturday were all gone pretty early (about 10am) I think, but everyone who lined up before the gates opened got a seat if they wanted one. They were still admitting members for standing room last Saturday when I got back to the ground at 1:30pm.

From last week, I would assume the following:
Lined up 4am or earlier - Good chance of L2 or L3 seats
Lined up 6:30am or earlier - Good chance of L1 seat
Joined the queue after 8am - Definite seat on L4.
Entry to ground before 10am - Reasonable chance of seat on L4.
After 10am - Standing room

i know someone who turned up just before the bounce and got a single seat at the front of level 4. Maybe that he got a seat that was "technically" taken but the person spent the next four quarters in the bar... not sure.

got on the phone at spot on noon today and got 4 seats on Level 2 N37

As someone who was inside the MCC from 6:45AM on Saturday and will be again this week - I agree with this. :thumbsu:
