Why do giants get only a six day break?

Top side have been given the Friday game for yonks. Many people don't realise or mind that it could be construed as an advantage ....... until its awarded to Collingwood.

I honestly reckon it was done to give Carlton/Melbourne an 8 day break before playing in Brisbane/Adelaide

Collingwood playing on Friday makes total sense, that's not the issue imo

top team gets the friday prelim, simple as that

if your collingwood or gws you just hope you dont get what happened in 2009/2010,when your opponent gives you hell 2 years in a row(kudos doggies)while the 2 teams lay down and die against each other like a pack of fairies in the saturday prelims

I for one think that all finals should be played simultaneously at 2pm Saturday.

Completely fair.

No one is going to have a problem with that right......

Until such time the lower finishing team can suck a 6 day break up.

If it was 5 days you would have an argument but a 6 day break is a standard break across a season and they had a bye like two weeks ago ffs.

AFL isn't about fairness. Look at this year StKilda get a home final on a ground they've played less games on than the oppistion.

Do you think it would be different if the positions were reversed?

No chance.
It was the League pandering to Melbourne & Carlton for a big Friday night Semi that got things out of kilter.
They should have played Saturday and all would then be fine.
But 96,000 turned up, so the League is delighted.

while your at it look at the 1913,1991 and 1997 final series(2 grand finals 3 v 4 and 5 v 6 elimination finals & crows home final against higher ranked team, then the colbert mark, well that was an umpire, but the rest afl clusterfxxx all going against the saints & in 1997 case geelong and the bulldogs)

As I said nothing to do with fairness.

Makes it harder to understand why club like Collingwood don't win the premiership more often.

2009 StKilda 5 games clear of fourth play at their home ground.

People always talk about Adelaide getting the home final against Geelong in week 2 of 1997, but rarely mention Geelong (2nd) facing a then MCG specialist North Melbourne (7th) at the MCG in week 1

Geelong win that game like they should have, week two would have seen Adelaide (4th) v Sydney (6th) at Football Park and Western (3rd) Bulldogs v West Coast (5th) and Geelong have the home prelim

Imagine saying you are the form team of the comp in finals, finish 7th but whinge about a shorter break.
To be fair on GWS, I haven’t heard anything from them complaining about the short break. It’s other supporters.

To answer the OP, Collingwood finished first and won their QF. They deserve to have the longer break if they progress to the GF.

Awaiting the tears when GWS get toweled up on Friday night...morons will blame the 6 day break.

Not the fact that Collingwood are a better team and that GWS Bradbury'd a finals spot.

How did GWS Bradbury anything?

They've gone 10-2 since the bye (including finals) and have beaten Melbourne, Carlton, St Kilda and now Port all in away games.

They've simply been a good football side playing good football and getting the wins they needed after a slow start to the season.

It’s literally been the case for nearly 20 years, ever since they brought in the Friday prelim in 2004.

The ONLY exception was 2012, when the AFL “forgot” to book ANZ for both nights. Which stitched up…Collingwood (and Hawthorn).

How is some of this tripe allowed on the main board?

Well fair enough. They did benefit from some favourable results in other games late in the season though.
