Western Magpies seniors arent payed they r all volunteers , perhaps that is y the club has been struggling for so long ... they need a sponsor so they can afford to bring good players to the club and keep the young blokes at the club

Thats good, but its not all about the $$$. None of the players at heights get paid and they are still more than competitive

but if u look at past players from the Western Magpies like Mark Keenan (spotty) , Craig Wells(sunshine) and Ayden Mcnally(west footscray) who r all quality players they have all moved onto other clubs with the cash ..

Must not be a GOOD club to be around. Heights players stay for no cash cos they are actually mates and enjoy playing and partying together.Maybe the Magpies need a bit of a culture change.

Fellas i just started playing for Braybrook and i haven't been in melbourne long but mateship just isn't apart of this team. Is it like this in all sides, its nothing like the country and ridiculously filthy. Having a ball though

i know this sounds stupid but do u think a name change would help the magpies , perhaps a change back to the laverton banner

Absolutely, people now have no idea who the Western Magpies are and where they come from. A change to Laverton-Western Magpies or Laverton Magpies would be the ideal choice. Laverton apparently were always a rough side and the people in charge had enough and wanted to steer the club in another direction, now the clubs aim is to play fairly and within the spirit of the game, not to bash up opposing players like it used to apparently be. If i'm wrong then correct me. Ive only being going down to watch them since last year.

The reason behind the name change in the first place was because of a sponsorship agreement with the Westside Hotel. The Westside Hotel wanted the name changed to Western Magpies , Laverton at the time didnt have much choice because of the financial situation .. Now the sponsorship is over and I cant c why they cant switch the name back to Laverton.

Thats what $$$$ do to a club. When we played braybrook last year and went in for a drink after the game there were 15 of our players and 5 of braybrooks.

Not all clubs are like that. Its the coin that does it.

Have u heard of Ayden Bourne i hear he is a AFL like player on the rise ... any thoughts

This is not the case, absolute crap.

Magpies crowd is still feral but on the field tey just dont have enough go in em to even be dirty.... with the exception of 1 player. I think its number 4..... big bloke. May as well retire doesnt get a kick and just whacks blokes from behind all day

I think goesbang does have a clue.. I witnessed the big number 4 charge a bloke form behind on saturday... He ran straight in off the line at the centre bounce and charge right into a blokes back. He gave away a free kick, started a scuffle and then walked away from it all. That is not a good example to set for the young kids they had playing for them.
The Magpies have some good kids coming through and need to stamp out undiscipline crap and rebuild a good young side that may lift them quite a few spots on the ladder in years to come.

Also, they need to do something about there rooms.. they are terrible, they are not alone though... there are a few in out league that are a joke!!!!

Thanks Dekkaroo. I just call it how I see it... and 4 is a THUG!!!

Good call with the rooms too. They are so dark and dingy, it doesnt create a good atmosphere.

which club in both div 1 and div 2 in the wrfl, has the worst facilities in the league??

In Div 2 there are quite a few...
Sunny Heights
West. Magpies
West Footscray
Braybrook (at the moment)
Deer Park
Brunswick Power
Gladdy Park

There are only a few that you would say are good quality.

Seddon would have to top the list in Div 1.

ive seen most of the division 1 facilties
port colts have great facilities, very spacy, the extra ground is good to do warm up and stretches
sunshine does too, as the home team can use the basketball courts to warm up in, just a pity for the away team. umpires use a spare room in the gym too to get changed in, unlike the room they previously had to use, inside the away team rooms, which is tiny
Parkside have great facilities as well, with many team choosing to warm up near the cricket pitch areas
Hoppers as well. having the spare oval is great to stretch and warm up with the umpires using the kinder
havent seen seddon for some time
Yarraville, well for being an ex VFA ground have pretty good facilites as well
havent been to altona since they used to be in div 1 in 2003
the new st albans rooms are top standard too

div 2
----
west footscrays - bumpy , tiny ground, rooms need to be bigger
nth sunshine -good surface, rooms are okay
nth footscrays - decent surface, decent rooms
sunshine heights - motocross track surface, need bigger rooms
wyndham vale - bit of a wind tunnel, ground wasnt too crash hot - rooms need a wall instead of a roller door
gladdy park - need to get rid of the cricket pithces and rooms need renovations

Port Colts r easily the best rooms in the league , West Footscray would have to be worst.

Yeah Port Colts are good rooms however the surface (in the away room anyway) is like an ice skating rink. If they could lay down some old carpet or something that was condusive for boots with stops then they would be cherry ripe.

Anyone got any thoughts on who might beat Glenorden this year? and how???

I dont think anyone can beat Glenorden this year but i think if West Footscray get into some form and win a few games on the trot they have just about the only chance i reckon ...
