Plenty of injuries ruin careers early, could be just an injury that turns him from a star to average player lowering his next deal.

Regardless Adelaide will match any offer, they'll match knowing every club including Geelong will trade for him. Geelong are going to have to trade for him regardless. As reported Geelong are after Scott Selwood and Henderson (as you mentioned) as well. Along with trying to retain Tom Hawkins. They'll also want to retain Bartell, Kelly, Enright and Stevie J on lower contracts, how will Geelong expect to fit all these players under the cap if they are paying Danger $1.2Million next year? They are better off saving $400k and having a tilt at another premiership.

The crows have offered Dangerfield a contract worth 850-900k per year. Why would they be happy to pay 1.2 million to match the cats offer.

If cats are struggling for cap space, they would rather retire off Stevie J, Bartel and Kelly than miss on one of the 3 targets.

Dangerfield will get a front loaded contract, Henderson a back ended deal.

Because Henderson doesn't want to be there and Carlisle does. Also Jake is a couple of years younger than Lachie. No way is Henderson at his age and output worth a top 10 selection. Pick 15 - 20 at best, about the same value as Motlop, Carlisle, Scharenberg or Aish.

If Henderson wants to be at Geelong , we'll trade him to Geelong .
If Carlisle wants to be at Carlton , we'll take him in the PSD .

They'd happily match knowing any club including Geelong will trade for him, you think Geelong will let a top 5 player not come to their club because they'd have to trade????

Thats a tough call, Stevie J, Bartel and Kelly would be huge role players at another tilt at a flag, obviously lower contracts but currently they are better players than Scott Selwood.

If they pay and he stays it's a win he's a fantastic player. If he doesn't but wants to be traded again a win, if he risks the PSD it's our loss but I and many others would take that punt

No spoon mate .
Big chance to be lowest Melbourne based club though and if Carlisle wants to stay in Melbourne ... Bingo !!
Not saying Carlisle doesn't want to go to Carlton but why would he choose Carlton over the other Vic clubs? If a trade can't get done to Carlton why would he risk going to Queensland as he is the exact type of player those clubs are after. Plenty of other Vic clubs would happily trade for his services.

You really think we want to roll over and let you have him when more spoils are potentially on the table?

What planet are you living on?
It's more than possible. Try and trade and we could delay it till the end and you'll miss the boat on your trade targets. To think it's not possible is naive in the extreme.

Delaying the trade could mean Dangerfield will agree to go to another Vic club instead of ending up in the PSD

Carlisle would be great so would keeping Henderson. CHB + FB for the next eight years all sewn up.

Theoretically, from friends of his I know, I doubt it highly. Race between two clubs.

And if a trade can't get done then I guess he'll stay in Adelaide then. If he wants to go to Geelong why would Geelong want to play games and risk missing out on him?

Because if it gets to that point, we will have the cap space to take on a large price on his head in order to scare off teams ahead of us in the PSD queue. Again we hold no risk, we miss out on him we've lost nothing but Adelaide lose him for nothing. Will the AFC be willing to play that game of chicken when all the noise is he wants to play at GFC or AFC and no one else?

Adelaide have no reason not to match. It's the entire point of RFA, if the contract is reasonable and the player is worth more than the compensation, a team will match any day of the week and force a trade.

yet it's never happened

It's Dangerfield in limbo, trade not getting done to Geelong, only down to 2 clubs as you said, he'll stay in Adelaide then as he doesn't want to be picked up by the other clubs.

Not if he puts a high enough price on his head, we'll have the space but other clubs ahead of us won't or will have to cut 2-3 fringe players to make room. Who's gong to do that to recruit a player who doesn't want to be there? Who's going to fork out 1.2m minimum for a player who'll likely leave before these clubs enter their window?

What club's gonna have 1.2mil spare in the cap just in case a guy who doesn't wanna go to their club might become available at the last minute? Dont be ridiculous.

I'd certainly hope my club does. You think Gold Coast, Brisbane, Carlton, Melbourne and St Kilda won't have Cap room? Melbourne offered that sort of money last year and Colligwood was also offering that sort and Danger didn't say know, he said its up to the club to trade him and Adelaide said no.

It won't get to that, Geelong will trade, top 5 player in the comp wants to come to your club you don't let them walk to the pre season draft hoping other clubs can't afford it, unless Geelongs list managers are that incompetent a trade will get done.

You think if Danger ends up at a different club he's going suddenly be a S*** player, Geelong will trade for him, if they let him go to the pre season draft they are that incompetent

Normally yes that's possible but his desire to return home isn't for success it's to appease a wife to be, if his management says don't take him in the PSD he'll just leave in 2 years would the Dees hierarchy still pick him? Brave call, he'll be at Geelong or Adelaide. The crows have more to lose than us, it doesn't matter to us if he goes PSD and doesn't get to us, we're not the one who's lost a great player for zip. If a trade eventuates it won't be the R1 and Motlop pie in the sky type trades given that at that point they hold the risk not us. Maybe a Murdoch or GHS. The R1 pick may be gone anyway.

.??? What are you on about once you make an offer we are advised to see if we have available cap! 1.2 million is a fair figure for such quality I would pay it. And to say he won't be any good? He's playing bloody good this year for someone that doesn't want to be there!

The same could be said about Geelong so we both lose?
Not necessarily, we could still trade our R1 for Henderson, could still target Selwood all the while Adelaide stew over nothing happening.
