Traded Charlie Dixon [traded w/ #49 to Port for #10 and 2016 second round pick]

This isn't really a three-way trade is it? It's just two two-way trades. Port and Richmond aren't linked

Seems that way to me.

Maybe GC did not want to do the Richmond deal without making sure they got pick 10 first?

But it does seem to work out reasonably for each team.
Port had to give more than Pick 10 and Suns got future picks. Richmond got the pick 19 they have been chasing. Port got the best player in the deal in Charlie, which usually decides the winner.

As Kenny Hinkley knows, when he is on song Big Charlie is a massive handful for defenders. Fits in well in that forward line.

Suns were chasing future picks since there is a chance (a chance only when you are talking about 16yo kids) they will have some highly ranked Academy kids. Finally!! Getting sick of other clubs bagging the Academy system b/c of Sydney and GWS. Suns have got eff all the last 3 years.

Not a bad trade, Port needed a KPF the second draft pick may not amount to much depending where they finish next year!

Doesnt seem far off the mark considering teams needs!
GC will use those next year picks for points for academy players so it won't really matter where Port and Richmond finish on the ladder.

True but if the Power finish high it's not a huge cost to them, I don't see any glaring winner it's pretty close.

Which is what everyone wants, really.

The guy has had off field issues and hasn't once made it through an entire season without injury.
And is moving to Port to reconnect with his former coach Ken Hinkley and kicked 41 goals in 16 games last year. But don't let your failure to land a power forward this year cloud your judgement.
Or any year for that matter ;)

Yes I was struggling to work out why this deal was part of the bigger deal. The only thing I can think of is risk mitigation for GC- rather than one future 2nd rounder dependent on where PA finish they have two horses in the race and they hope that at least one of the two have a bad year.

Interesting to see a lot of supporters talking down Dixon, when the start of this thread had Brisbane sure to get him with 750k/year and a first rounder, also heavily linked to "Victoria", Fremantle, Essendon, Carlton, Collingwood, St Kilda etc, with most fans willing to part with an early first rounder for him.

The Suns want Dixon to stay.
Dixon wants to stay a Sun.
He manager wants to squeeze every available dollar out of the Suns for his new contract as he did in 2012.
A long term extension will be signed towards the end of the season.
The whole Dixon story is more of a media beat up than fact.
There's a lot of this

dlanod can you edit your All confirmed player movements thread to cover the proper way the trade has occurred as at the moment you have GC pick 63 out but Port receiving pick 49. It's more for future reference when you look back on these confirmed threads for reminders of how they went down.

41 goals in 16 games being injured half the time and in a woeful side is a actually very good. Expecting a big year from him if his ankle holds up.
