Considering what James Hird has become they might have been better off picking up a spud at 79 however Brodie Grundy & Luke Dunstan have been picked up around the pick we have offered in recent years.

This thursday Essendon will realise they have no better better bids for Ryder than our 17. They will have by then come to terms that this whole thing has got a stage where Ryder won't come back and play for them again and they won't want him to take up a space on their list and use up their cap. They will take 17 rather than losing him for nothing and losing a spot on their list.

They're really scared of us getting Ryder aren't they? You can smell their fear.

No doubt they are, you can tell they can't handle the fact our young list of stars is about to get stronger. It's also because their recruiting staff have left them in the dark re the players they're targeting so all they can do is sit there & hope our trades don't go through.

They'll be lucky to get 1-2 players in the Schoenclangers, Trengove or Giles B-C grade bracket to be interested in a move to their club let alone one of their 'dreamin' trades involving Davis or Cameron.

The trade that could hurt them long term will be if we land Gorringe as well & in a similar fashion to Polec he lives upto his potential, they then get to watch another homegrown top 10 pick that chose us over them become a star.

You know you've already lost Paddy, right? Our club volunteers its first rounder straight up, knowing you have a compromised bargaining position. We're trying not to be dicks, try returning the favour. So I'll ignore the idiotic ambit claim, essentially that "Port have to find us a player somewhere in the league desperate enough to want to go to Essendon no matter how many clubs it takes". Take some pick upgrades from us, and go do your own bloody hard work. Did I mention you've already lost Paddy?

From outside it seems your club would almost prefer no compensation. Does taking what you think is slight unders makes you feel you're admitting guilt for something you're still denying happened?

Thing is you won't even get to trade for players if you keep faffing: as we finish our other trades, pick upgrades go too. And we'll do those trades too, and they're intended to complement Paddy whenever he gets to play for us. So that other idiot trolling us with "if you don't getz Ryder you might miss a out on a flag then GC will roll you in 1016" can just go back in his box. Did I mention you've already lost Paddy?

Too bad for you though if you can't field a side in R1 2015. Now there's a worst case scenario. I know swaps past 3rd round have little value to you - you desperately need to upgrade 2-3 rookies just to have a R1 playing list at all - but it does all makes me wonder ... do you actually want to have a list for R1, or do you intend yet another act of completely irresponsible brinkmanship with the AFL?

I doubt last minute AFL mediation can produce a 3 or 4 way trade from thin air, but court proceedings by Paddy will produce a one-way trade without compensation. How much more of trade week do we waste indulging your fantasies rather than helping you get the best real world deal? Is it really our job to stop you screwing yourself yet again through delusional stupidity?

Our coach lead with "lets cut the BS, pick 16 is about right". Totally against negotiation 101 but you know more of cynical tactics than we do. Get over yourselves, do yourselves a favour take some compensation instead of the nothing you're heading towards. #17 is fair, therefore it's fair "in your circumstances".

Your posts have been fantastic throughout this process. But you may wish to stress that they have already lost Paddy. Because I don't think that they get that part.

The way I read the article, it seemed as though the author believes a deal will get done, and that Ryder will be a Port player by Thursday. I think this definitely will go down to the last minute though. At least Port are trying to do some wheeling and dealing to get this deal through, debunking the myth that Port are sitting on their asses doing nothing saying "17 take it or leave it."
