So you didn't care when Roo won it? ;)

Too young to have any remember of Carey at his prime, but is there a possibility that he talked back with umpires a bit given it's warded to the best and fairest?
How does "talking back to umpires" make you unfair?

Carey isn't the only one to miss out, it's a midfielders award now and a really irrelevant one.

Exhibit A - Priddis, I mean ok he is an extractor of the ball but the best and fairest player in the league?

Exhibit B - here are the players that got votes last year for AFC:

Patrick Dangerfield 21
Scott Thompson 14
Rory Sloane 10
Sam Jacobs 6
Taylor Walker 5
Eddie Betts, James Podsiadly, Brodie Smith 4
Josh Jenkins 3

... notice Talia (our best and fairest winner got ZERO)

The only issue with our supportes is that Hartigan barely troubles the statistician in a PS game while blanketing Westhoff and his head is called for. This is because as a 10 gamer he's expected to do a damn sight more than just nullify an opponent. But not the 130 gamer, Dmac, nullify, that's now the name of the game.

Bulldogs are undefeated & playing good footy...

Yes, but beating them will not change perception of how our Club is traveling. With that said, losing though will raise a lot of questions about us.

I stand by what I said our first big and real test in 2015 as to how we are traveling is against the Power.

Here's the end of last year ... have a look at the teams we beat - not much there:

Round 13 North Melbourne (6) Win 109-73
Round 14 Essendon (7) Loss 92-101
Round 15 Port Adelaide (5) Win 99-76
Round 16 GWS (16) Win 140-72
Round 17 Hawthorn (2) Loss 92-104
Round 18 Collingwood (11) Win 98-82
Round 19 West Coast (9) Loss 105-136
Round 20 Brisbane (15) Win 168-63
Round 21 Richmond (8)Loss 69-79
Round 22 North Melbourne (6) Loss 94-101
Round 23 St Kilda (18) Win 141-62

I feel that the two teams we have played will not be big scalps at any time throughout the season. Melbourne are not a good team yet, so we won't get much credit if we win that one. Bulldogs similarly. Port - it'll be hard to read too much into a win there beyond local rivalry.

It takes 10 or so rounds to get a feel for which teams are the hard ones to beat, and which one are a complete embarrassment to lose to.

Dangerfield wants to see how the team has turned it around - I say fair enough after looking at that list ! He will be waiting till after 1/2 way before we see anything move.

PS - Off topic - Port havent had as great a run as the media are claiming either (As pointed out by some on here) but the list of teams they beat / lost too is really hidden by the last two finals they played which catapulted them into everyones eyes:

Round 13 Sydney (1) Loss 94-98
Round 14 Western Bulldogs (14) Win 128-56
Round 15 Adelaide (10) Loss 76-99
Round 16 Essendon (7) Loss 60-62
Round 17 Richmond (8) Loss 106-126
Round 18 Melbourne (17) Win 72-69
Round 19 Collingwood (11) Loss 70-76
Round 20 Sydney (1) Loss 58-84
Round 21 Gold Coast (12) Win 56-47
Round 22 Carlton (13) Win 140-37
Round 23 Fremantle (4) Loss 97-105
Elimination Final Richmond (8) Win 132-75
Semi Final Fremantle (4) Win 105-83
Preliminary Final Hawthorn (2) Loss 94-97

I watched the Port vs Sydney game and the Freo vs Port games and didn't see much there to get too excited about. Sure they were dour games of high effort .. but I didnt see anything to make think "we are miles away from that level"

Interesting that the Cats have been sniffing around GAJ for the last 12 months...

Sounds like a quick fix to me, might only get a few years out of him, which I guess will be OK to keep them where they're at at least. Will be interesting to see if they're still sniffing around with his current shoulder issues.

I think 8 time All Australian speak a lot more of his ability than a single Brownlow win. Although he was leading in 1997 before his quad injury ruined that and his spot in a premiership team, so would likely have had 2 if not for injury. I'd definitely rather an Adelaide player win it, but on principle I don't consider umpires to be the best people in the league to judge who the most valuable players are in each game, considering they've got a fair bit of other stuff to worry about. Even if they weren't officiating the game, I still couldn't really care who the umpires think the best players were.

Yes

Even that will depend on how they are travelling at the time

If they are 0-4 then beating them won't be seen as passing a test

In other games it's also a matter of how we win or lose. Need to win by a lot and lose by a little while fighting to gain respect

Overall how we play against Port Hawks Sydney maybe Freo is the test

It's interesting that they had the money, considering their supposed offer to Patrick

Absolutely.
Yeah the football purists tend to favour the AFL Coaches award or MVP or whatever it's called. But the general punter, and there's more of them out there than purists, would say that there is only one individual player award and that's the Brownlow.

So who cares what the casual, non-fan thinks?

No serious footy fan thinks Priddis had a better year than Fyfe. Who cares what someone who doesn't follow footy and only watches the grand final once a year thinks.

I don't think its as much about what the non-fan thinks. Its more about the fact that the most prestigious individual award in our Sport is a complete farce. To think that Priddis was the best and fairest footballer in the country is a complete joke.

What a surprise! Yet another Danger article by Roochi.

Unneccessary. Contrived. Written for the sake of highlighting Dangerfield, in yet another pathetic attempt to derail/unsettle/undermine the Crows, disguised as a plea for reformation of FA for the common good of all teams. Keep chipping away Rooch you campaigner. It's a wonder you didn't mention Scott Thommo's counter for good measure. EAD.

For whatever reason, the swing to the talk of Danger staying doesn't inspire me much. I think he's gone no matter how many games we win or how well we do in Finals. He's leaving for the 1 thing Adelaide can never provide him and it trumps all the good things we do offer.

Has me beat but that's just about always played a part, we've heard stories about Williams not getting votes from umpires because of what he said on the field. Sure, we might disagree with it but I think it's always played a part and that hasn't ever changed, whether you love it or hate it.

No matter the award, there's always going to be a group of people saying that players are either undeserving of the award or have been ripped off to not 'win' it unless it's something as straight forward as the Coleman.
