It's getting the hands on the A graders that's the tough bit. Cripps is the obvious one, but to take the big step into the top 4 bracket needs more than 1 or 2. We may fast track to competitiveness, but find ourselves short of the mark again. I think we need to follow the path of the last few weeks for the culture of the club to remain strong, but it will be a slow process assembling the necessary elite talent to go all the way.

Actually if you look at the lists of Hawthorn, Freo and Sydney what sets them apart is their ability to develop later picks and even rookies into first 22 players...seriously go look how many they have.

They don't actually have that many first round picks in their teams.

Its about making the most of our picks and coaching and developing them properly, not simply hoarding first round draft picks.

Happy to get the win yesterday. Not our best performance nor the most entertaining game to watch at times, but a win is a win and we'll gladly take the 4 points and move on to next week.

Disappointing to let the Suns back into the contest a few times throughout the afternoon, but it was pleasing that we were able to hold them at bay after looking like perhaps giving up the lead.

To walk away with a 6 goal win is a good result but we'll be somewhat disappointed for not having buried the Suns when we had the opportunity to.

Amazing what happens when the boys have a bit of confidence about them. As supporters we can ask nothing more of the group than that they give their all and that is exactly what we're seeing at the moment. Make no mistake about it, things may be tough for the next few years....but if there is passion and a commitment to the jumper and to each other among the playing group, then the supporters will continue to support in droves.

CARLTON'S new direction under interim coach John Barker has worked wonders for individual players, who have revelled in the attacking game-plan they are operating under. Barker's philosophy has got the best out of his players:D:D:D, and that is reflected in the round 13 Team of the Week, brought to you by Accor Hotels.
Zach Tuohy sparked the Blues off half-back on Sunday and earns his selection, while captain Marc Murphy and big-bodied midfielder Tom Bell have well-deserved places.

ZACH TUOHY (Carlton)- Sparked the Blues with his attacking play and run off half-back, kicking a brilliant running goal. Finished with 27 possessions at 81.5 per cent efficiency.
TOM BELL (Carlton) - Took advantage of a lacklustre Gold Coast to break the lines and bustle his way to 32 possessions and six inside 50s. Missed some targets but his penetrating kicks gave Carlton good value.
MARC MURPHY (Carlton) - Playing with freedom as the Lions' tag went to Patrick Cripps, Murphy racked up 32 possessions and worked hard to have an influence coming out of defence and at stoppages, with six clearances and six rebound 50s.

The great thing about Bell besides his obvious general improvement is that he's been pretty consistent all year, regardless of coach.

yes, well consistently bullying, pushing other out of the way for the ball, he is not a sharing type me think:D:D:D
Can you imagine racing Bell for the last Malteser in the bowl. You would end up hip and shouldered half way across the room

The thing I've enjoyed most about Bells game this year to date, is the work he's putting in for others.
Seems to have finally got his game right, where he's of best use to the team as a whole and not just himself.

It's good to see him clearing a path for team-mates and not just calling out for the ball as he used to do. Well done Tom. :thumbsu:

Watched the game last night again and what I really liked was just how much trust the senior players have in the young guys.

They don't look for more trust-worthy options but just the best option wearing the Navy Blue.

There's no fear in getting the ball in the hands of Cripps, Graham, Buckley, Holman etc. Loved it.

Holmans kicking in the last quarter was very sound. Needs to play a full game next week against Bulldogs.

Holman isn't a bad kick but those two kicks forward, made him look like Fields

Kicks were terrific as was his clear-thinking. Didn't have enough game time to show the commentators that he isn't a nice 12 year old kid.......Soon.. :)

When he came on, I told my old man to watch him because he's a tackle machine.

First chance at a tackle and the gold coast player just shook him off.

Speaking of Fields, still can't get over that torp from the goal square.

Laughed when they said that and was really hoping he absolutely smashed someone when he had a chance lol
