Your opinion predicates on the fact that all booing is not based in large part on Goodes job as a footballer. A sydney swans prime target of booing. A much maligned protected species within his job, a footballer. Which he had long history of before going political on the country.

No one person could possibly know the collective reasons for booing and no one can claim its all racial. Not even lunatics like Pridham.

The poll in here alone (which is not subject to political correctness bias) shows there is no consensus. Sorry. Theory falls flat.
Believe I was discussing the use of the term 'ape'. It is racist, it is not freedom of speech. Simple, don't get yourself confused.
ps If you think that a poll on BF is a good guide, well you have my sympathy. Don't get me wrong, I like BF, but seriously!;)

This is actually ****ed the support this w***er is getting. It isn't ****ing RACISM. If staging for free kicks, sliding in and taking out peoples knees countless times, being protected from the umpires, singling out a 13 year old girl and embarrassing her and then calling her the face of racism and also taunting the crowd by pretending to throw a spear at them in some provocative war dance is a race then apparently any flog who does this shit can claim racism and not identify the fact they people MAY actually be booing them because they are arrogant, harmful human beings then there is something severely wrong.

Its clear from some comments here that some fans are racist in my opinion, and use the freedom of speech argument to get over their views. They of course will deny this.
Despite the spin that comes out of AFL house its clear that as a sport we are behind Soccer, Rugby League and Rugby Union in racial tolerance.

He couldn't of handled the ape incident any better, that girl deserved to be called out and educated on the subject
I don't agree with this at all. There are a myriad of different ways he could've handled the situation. I've worked in a multicultural primary school environment and I've seen and heard racial slurs being flung around many, many times and the way Goodes handled it -- by ejecting the girl -- was wrong, and hence, the backlash.

Humiliation is never considered 'education'.

The ape and zoo comments are completely racist. That's undeniable.

There are many valid reasons to not like Goodes but him taking umbrage to being called an ape is not one of them.

That's a really narrow-minded view there.

Racism exists in all sports.

Yes he did. That's why the issue is like it is today.
No, no he didn't at all. You couldn't find a single quote from him saying the booing is racist, let alone saying it right from the start. Feel free to dig one up.

How dare he speak about what he believes in!!

Speak away, just leave it off the football field and get on with the game. That goes for all players and supporters.

We have indigenous rounds, we celebrate multiculturalism, teams support causes, there are times an places for everything.

In this country maybe, soccer elsewhere is terrible.

Any yet you just had to bring up him defending himself from racism

Freedom of speech means hearing things you might not always agree with. To whom would you delegate the task of deciding what we can and can't say?

yeah it's horrible when you are frightened by an imaginary spear and difficult to know how to retaliate to protect yourself adequately
Those imaginary spears are dangerous and can cause real damage.

I am surprised no-one was seriously injured when Goodes threw it into the crowd.

Then you are conflating things....

The poll, which I was talking about, isn't about the ape incident. It is about why people boo Adam Goodes. You want to make it about something specific, you will find yourself disagreeing with a portion of the nation in your assertions.

Let me get this straight, you are up in arms, caps lock n all because... pretending to throw a pretend spear is taunting the crowd.

Come now child.

Err yes he could have

"Hello all, I would like to address a taunt that was directed at me in tonights game. This person in the crowd called me an Ape. Whether at the time of calling me an ape this person knew it had racist connotations attached to it is up for debate. That's why I would like to take this oppotunity to educate people and let them know that calling someone of my heritage and ape is hurtful"

But AFL players and coaches being politically correctly to support someones feelings isn't meaningless drivel? Just seems like a whole bunch of "who can show their tolerance harder" in the media this week.

Where as we here in this thread represent the cross section of people in this country with unbiased opinions. Honest on both sides. So much so a lot of you are all embarrassed at the opinions. So you can't be suggesting the poll areas suggesting it isn't racism is not counted in it, but people in the public space acting for their politically correct interests ARE counted.
Actually if you read the articles they are very heartfelt and genuine.

There are also a lot of people wandering onto the Swans board and being very kind in their comments. As a Swans supporter it is much appreciated.

Perhaps some people feel good when they show empathy and compassion for others. It's a fairly universal human trait.

Ok. So why are all his friends standing up for him saying that he is hurt by the booing. He sees the booing as a racist attack. If not, then he should come out and say so, then all the media hysteria can calm down. Why not be honest about things then if its not racist? Explain to the people why. Create some two way discussion about it. Otherwise it's just creating a media shit storm.

My father never recovered after he was attacked by an imaginary spear.

Yes, you can unintentionally offend anyone over a variety of things. However that girl chose that particular comment for a reason even if she did not understand the full consequences of what she was saying.
I would say its because she thought he looked a bit like an ape. Just like she would've called him a fat so-and-so if he was a large fella.
I reckon the odds are 500-1 that she chose it as a racial insult (as opposed to the far more common black campaigner) or was intending to suggest he was closer to ape than human due to his skin colour.
