It's been shown why the face of racism was used. It was not the stereotypical racist standing up and yelling abuse, it was a young 13 yo girl mimicking the words of those around her. That's why it was upsetting. That's why it became an issue and a far bigger issue than the person that got evicted from Subiaco 2 weeks ago.

I, and maybe because I am a mother, feel that very little benefit of any doubt at all was given to the girl in that first 24 hours.

A bit of empathy in that direction I do not believe would go astray.

My argument is she didn't realise what she was saying and she was made the scapegoat on 3 occasions BEFORE he acknowledged there may have been circumstances that contributed to her making that comment....none of you are giving her ANY benefit of the doubt which I believe is what Goodes failed to do also.

certainly the people arguing racism have a definite advantage. namely the advantage of not encumbering themselves with facts and evidence. research is time consuming. actual research may mean missing a few deadlines which is unacceptable in this day and age.

Leach, Wilson(s), Nyal, Robbo, The AFL, All club captains, AFL coaches including Buckley and Roos all in support of Goodes. Most claiming that the attacks are based on race, despite being told by those that actually boo that it is for other reasons. FFS "The Age" ran a special edition cover for him, what other unpopular Australian sportsman has had that level of support from the media? Anthony Mundine would be pretty jealous, not to mention Milne.

So, Adam Goodes has successfully done an Essendon with the AFL this year. He has hijacked it beautifully.

To be honest, it has left me not wanting to follow AFL anymore. I don't need the AFL to tell me when, who, or where I can boo. It's a public domain and sporting people are performers who should be subject to boos, cheers, jeers and tomatoes. This is not a flipping nanny state. Piss off AFL and Chris Scott. I'll boo till the cows come home.

I am shocked that you don't accept this.

I'm genuinely shocked that you think I should. It doesn't make much sense. The whole this equals that no matter what way of thinking is a massive set up for difficulty in human relations. It might work well when surrounded by a majority of like-minded or similarly educated people, or those socially conditioned to accept it as a principle, but the minute you step out of that sheltered paradigm, you're going to encounter some difficulty and sadly, one of the more common responses is to start labelling others as a means of rationalizing the difference between you i.e. racist, ignorant etc.

This is not a great way to build common ground. Just my opinion of course.

I didn't say it made sense, I was angry at Wilson, but I'd have boo-ed Goodes as a proxy, but only if they happened to be in my loungeroom. I wouldn't boo Goodes now, probably even if he did something deserving. I am a bit pissed off with the Sacred Cow status being awarded to Goodes but not enough to risk siding with racists.
