If Woosha brings Guy McKenna with him,
Surely we have a chat too Harley Bennell?
Parents don't want him back home in WA
Tigers now out of the race
Whats everyone think?

Very surprised Richmond pulled out, it's exactly what they need.
If Carlisle did go to Carlton and we received two early second round picks (unlikely we would get 1) I wonder if they would accept pick 20 for Harley.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bennell will be Hawks, give them next year's cup then...

He would've been perfect for Richmond - something is up if they're pulling out of the race.

Id be all for having him talent wise, he'd be massive for our list. If we manage to add McKenna, Ill back him either way - to say he can control him, or to say he's too far gone and not worth the risk.

Can't see him ending up at us though.

Bennell missing medical, out with dusty. Reeks of Garlett.

Having said that will be cheaper by the day. Let's have a look

If Bennell has had a problem it must have gotten a whole lot worse in the last few months.

A snapshot of the guy's career makes for pretty good reading.

Garlett was a special case because he was not in the system yet so there was no way that his lack of
professionalism could translate his talent into what is required of AFL players. Bennell is basically already an elite player. He is just a lad and Gold Coast cannot afford to have player like him around when the culture of that club basically saw it become another West Coast.

It's the reason that McKenna was sacked and the reason why Eade was installed, it's all about changing culture. Moving Bennell works at both a symbolic and deeper more meaningful level.

I would not rule our Bennell going through the motions with other clubs to ensure that he gets back home.

For better or worse, recently Essendon don't tend to take these risks with wayward players. Injury prone players sure, but not wayward and with off-field issues. Yet he's exactly what we need...

It's time the club takes a risk with those kind of players.

Out of all the volatile rejects/injury prone rejects we have taken a punt on how many have worked?.

Doc Weildon. No
Mark Williams. No
Damien Cupido. No
Paul Barnard. Yes
Dale Kickett. No
Barry Young. Yes

Clearly the strike rate is small, in saying that none of these have the class of Bennell with the possible exception of Cupido.

I don't see Bennell at Freo. Plus who are they going to trade for him, the best pick they have is pick 20 (around about)

I don't want him at Essendon. If Richmond won't take him, yet they'll have Dustin Martin, he must actually be Satan.

If Bennell goes back to WA i fear his mates will just drag him down like happens so often.

Personally i wouldnt touch him, i can't see him lasting. Tigers probably saw Dusty and him together and saw premiership aspirations dissappear before their eyes.

He is exactly what we need though i agree with that.

Dream draft / trade scenario for us:

Outgoing (9):
Fletcher - retired
Chapman - retired
Winderlich - retired
Carlisle - traded to STK for pick #5
Melksham - traded to MEL for pick #25
Dalgleish - delisted
Aylett (R) - delisted
W.Hams - delisted
A.Steinberg (R) - delisted

Incoming (9):
Pick #4 - A.Francis (192cm Luke Hodge - better aerially, less midfield ability. Aggressive, powerful, courageous, great intercept player, elite overhead. Could play defensive general, 3rd tall forward/back, potentially as a Goddard style utility).

Pick #5 - C.Curnow (come draft combine will measure close to 194cm and 95kg. Super athletic, powerful beast of a KPF / Inside MID combo player. Raw but with huge upside).

Pick #23 - R.Clarke or L.Partington depending on availability (both are running offensive mids. Clarke more explosive and with more x-factor, Partington with great running patterns and gets possessions at will. Both damaging. Both more outside at this stage but both with clear ability inside the contest).

Pick #25 - On trade for H.Bennell (highly unlikely, although not many suitors ATM. Could need to give 2016 second rounder as well) or M.Hibberd (191cm running back flanker / winger in the Birchall mold. Good overhead and intercept player, no inside game at this point. Missed last season with a knee so is an overager draftable this year.

Pick #41 - M.Brown (overage KPP utility that filled in for us during the NAB challenge this year).

Pick #59 - S.McKernan (rookie upgrade)

Free Agent - Leuenberger (BRI) - with no guarantees that Bellchambers comes good, a number one ruckman is needed on the list. There are some good young prospects next year, so I would take a young ruck in 2015.

Rookie Pick 1: Tom Wallis - son of Dean, slight framed mid 180s cm mid. Can play inside and loves to tackle, but needs a few pre-seasons to build the body. Skillful and a good runner.

Rookie Pick 2: Kieran Agius (super talented 189cm forward. Fitness concerns and lack of professionalism the reason he's available here. Considered the best kick in the draft. The forward line equivalent of Petracca for damage and 1v1 ability, but with no apparent scope to play anywhere else on the ground. Huge talent, worth a rookie shot).

Rookie Pick 3: M.Hartley (former COL listed KPD. Great season in VFL. Athletic 198cm defender).

These selections (while obviously hopeful rather than realistic) fix a lot of our list imbalances without delisting half our squad. Allows us to get talent in and positional needs in. Would result in something like the following (everyone will have slightly different views as to who is / is not best 22):

SENIOR BEST 22:

FF: McKernan - Curnow - Z.Merrett
HF: Laverde - Daniher - Langford
C: Goddard - Heppell - Bennell/Hibberd(new)
R: Hocking - Leuenberger - Watson
HB: Hibberd(old) - Hooker - Gleeson
FB: Baguley - Hurley - Francis
I/C: Zaharakis - Myers - Stanton - Colyer

RESERVES BEST 22:

FF: Bellchambers - Edwards - Agius (R)
HF: Cooney - Ambrose - McKenna (R - Cat B)
C: J.Merrett - A.Browne - Clarke/Partington
R: O'Brien - Giles - Kavanagh
HB: Gwilt - M.Brown - Dempsey
FB: Ashby - Hartley (R) - Pears
I/C: Fantasia - Wallis (R) - Howlett - Long (R) - Kommer

Richmond's track record with even well behaved indigenous players is horrendous to begin with, this is a blessing in disguise for Harley the person at the very least

The other thing about Schoenmakers is that now he has some confidence he'll probably look better in defence too.

For me Schoenmakers is like Henderson - They both don't mark strongly enough considering their characteristcs - Schoenmaker is a forward.

Richmond has a choice between Yarran and Bennell - Doubt they could recruit both - Bennell may not have a home in 2016 ?

**** me, if he's so bad that Richmond don't want him then why the hell would we? DO NOT WANT BENNELL.

Or it could just be a case of them not wanting Martin AND Bennell. Maybe they would have taken him on if they didn't have Martin?

I don't think we have anyone at our club that goes as hard as Martin (on the crackpipe, not the field).

Given what Bennell could do for Richmond's flag aspirations in the next few years there must be some pretty serious issues for them to knock him back. No way you'd risk a 1st round pick on him at this stage. Make a lowball offer, if they take it then good, if not then we risk nothing of value.
