Finally, to give a closer-to-home example, you boys nearly had the unbeatable team in 2000. Yet you lads only won one and no one even remembers that in light of recent events.

Any club would have killed for Hodge, Mitchell, Burgers, Birch, Rioli etc in their prime. Whilst they may not have won the most possessions or got the most golden stars, the ability that made them great, is they stood up in big moments.

Will be an interesting ride to see where we go next. But we made the most of our time in the sunlight and that's all you can ask for in this league. It's bloody hard to win one, let alone 3 in 3 years and 4 in 8 or so.

Some good points. Just like to point out Rioli is in his prime years now. He is not a veteran like Mitchell, Hodge and Burgoyne. He could be going into his best years in next 3 or 4 seasons.
Absolutely right about making the most of their time in the sunlight. Far from the most talented team I seen in my time but got 4 premierships as a club from 2008 to 2015. Four premierships in eight seasons is always a great period of success for any club. The 2008 one was an early steal when Cats should have put it away. To then not just get complacent for guys like Hodge, Mitchell and Rioli is impressive careers to go on and win multiple premierships. Plenty of players would be so satisfied with glory of one that they may not have put in the hard yards to climb the mountain again in other seasons.

Geelong over a similar period have probably blown that one in 2008. If they can win it in two weeks time those two clubs with 4 premierships each from 2007 to 2016 will have completed a great era of rivalry with equal success to celebrate when they all finished their careers.
Time is running out for Enright, Mackie, Taylor and Bartel to get a 4th premiership as players. Selwood like Rioli has a lot more time to add some more.

Geelong, Brisbane, that Essendon side, even Collingwoods 2010-11 side we're all better - and that's just the last twenty years.
