West AdelaidePort can't afford any players unless they move hartlett to us or lobbe elsewhere.Kane ....if Hartlett was the fall back position on Gibbs ...watch this board explode
IMO with only 4 days to go .....the best we can hope for is two players .....Gibbs a cert, and ????
Who goes for the 2nd player ? .......IMO picks, with Lyons, CEY, Otten, and Henderson the quartet of trade potentials
Not being biased here ......just not seeing Mackay / Douglas being traded whilst on contract ...has not been our style, and the others i named will be looking for greater opportunities
I can see Lyons & Otten going to Port though
Because he isn't leaving Fremantle and we need to find other attainable a grade mids. Its not a difficult concept rooch. Can someone offer a good reason why our club isn't going for Nat Fyfe
West AdelaideWas speaking to someone involved ......they said 50 % of AFL Player contracts are unconditional (highly paid players) ....whilst the other 50% are on incentive contracts, which include match paymentsTell him he's not getting a game. It'll cost him roughly $50,000 in match payments, or more like $100k over two years. That could convince him to look somewhere else.

Because he is under contract & has said he is going nowhere next year. Can someone offer a good reason why our club isn't going for Nat Fyfe
Why do Port fans keep telling me that they don't have salary cap pressures because they didn't have to pay Ryder/Monfries contracts this year and that extra money rolls over to next year, thereby having 'extra cash' or room to move.Port can't afford any players unless they move hartlett to us or lobbe elsewhere.
This was my point ? .....if the AFL would be all over the Franklin deal if renegotiated ...why wouldn't that be the case with Gibbs ......or is that because the Franklin deal was his Unrestricted Free Agency offer?
Think i answered my own question
Still struggling with this situation:
Carlton sign Gibbs ...5 years @ $650K = $3.25M
Now Carlton forward pay .. example $2M over the first 2 years, leaving a balance of $1.25M over 3 years = $416K per year
Adelaide secures Gibbs with 3 years on his contract .....are you saying Gibbs still gets 3 years @ $650K or 3 years @416K??? .....this is what i'm struggling with in the process?
We would guarantee the $416k for 3 years, but would probably amend his contract to 4 years & increase his pa rate. This was my point ? .....if the AFL would be all over the Franklin deal if renegotiated ...why wouldn't that be the case with Gibbs ......or is that because the Franklin deal was his Unrestricted Free Agency offer?

West AdelaideCorrect, reiterated today on radio that Port have a real TPP issue .......Hartlett has to go, won't leave Sth Australia .....so options are?Port can't afford any players unless they move hartlett to us or lobbe elsewhere.

Heard that also heard his reply was well see and is stepping up his training.
A few are putting in some hard yards, Looks Like Pyke gave the hard word to a few of them.
West AdelaideThink what Go_Blues! is suggesting is that Gibbs will get the benefit of the forward contract payment PLUS 3 years @ $650K ??? ......no wonder he wants to come homeWe would guarantee the $416k for 3 years, but would probably amend his contract to 4 years & increase his pa rate.
Last I heard this asada money was quarantined & couldn't be utilised. Why do Port fans keep telling me that they don't have salary cap pressures because they didn't have to pay Ryder/Monfries contracts this year and that extra money rolls over to next year, thereby having 'extra cash' or room to move.
West AdelaideUnderstand what you're saying ......but you can't ask for any of the forward payment back?Neither. Adelaide negotiates a deal with Gibbs. It may be 400k but it might be 600k. Essentially, they renegotiate his contract. Carlton get screwed because the front-ended the deal. It needs to be remembered that they did this for their own advantage. They still get to choose to trade or not.
West AdelaideBelieve GC get pick 6 .....Richmond chasing GC's pick 30 in returnPrestia should get to the tigers for pick #5 & gold coast probably send back one of their many later picks.
He tries hard - I don't think his commitment is the issue - he's just not that good.
Training harder isn't going to change that.
Typical afl can't spell out what is actually happening with this. Rucci is writing as if its a done dealLast I heard this asada money was quarantined & couldn't be utilised.
Port have major cap issues.
That would mean it is cheaper for Carlton to keep him - as they don't have as much to pay in the remainder of the contract. It's better for Gibbs as he earns more. Is that right? Surely not.Understand what you're saying ......but you can't ask for any of the forward payment back?
If he has no value, what's he doing in our best 22.
If Gibbs has 3 years left at $416k & we add a 4th year at say $650k, we can pay $475k pa or even front load it if we can afford to.Think what Go_Blues! is suggesting is that Gibbs will get the benefit of the forward contract payment PLUS 3 years @ $650K ??? ......no wonder he wants to come home
West AdelaideIs it GWS & Carlton sorting some things out ......or Adelaide having to get their part of the deal complete from 3rd parties?Totally agree. Will get done and is much closer than people think. As always, Adelaide are entirely professional and the clubs are working well together. I understand that we need a few things to happen with GWS before we can commit. Adelaide are comfortable and know what Carlton needs.
Mackay's professionalism recognised
David Mackay’s outstanding preparation and attention to detail has been recognised, with the wingman awarded the Dr Brian Sando OAM Trophy.

They tell lies that makes Baby Jesus cryWhy do Port fans keep telling me that they don't have salary cap pressures because they didn't have to pay Ryder/Monfries contracts this year and that extra money rolls over to next year, thereby having 'extra cash' or room to move.

Obviously Mackay is on the unconditional contract![]()
West AdelaideGreat for us .....not sure Gibbs Manager will agree to that reduction ? ......Gibbs manager will want his cake (forward payment) + eat it too (the original $650K per year)If Gibbs has 3 years left at $416k & we add a 4th year at say $650k, we can pay $475k pa or even front load it if we can afford to.
West AdelaideNo definitely the higher paid players are unconditional contracts .....get full payments even if droppedMatch payments are still mandatory as far as I'm aware
