How the hell can the MRP get away with upping the penalty if a challenge fails? Ludicrous. Could you imagine if this was applied in a court of law everytime an accused wanted to challenge a ruling?? "Sorry there bud we have just increased your sentence for challenging our ruling even though there may be a chance your innocent." @#$% off!
It's the equivalent of an On The Spot fine if you are pulled over for speeding. You can contest it but you'd better be prepared to lose. It saves on court cases etc. It was introduced into the AFL to reduce the number of tribunal sittings which was disruptive and a QC feeding frenzy.

The increased penalty for an unsuccessful appeal is unfair as it is almost a form of double jeopardy; you are charged with manslaughter and sentenced to 12 years. Should you choose to plead Not Guilty the charge we will treat it as murder with a death sentence should you fail to prove your innocence.

Im as pissed off with this whole thing as the next bloke... **** it.. maybe more..

And ive melted good and hard and I reckon, like a good dose of Gastro, there is more to come.

that said, some of the shit directed at the Club and its staff is some of the most mis directed vitriol ive seen in a while.

Sure they could challenge - the AFL and MRP have already made something out of nothing - and if we challenge it - all of a sudden they are gonna come back with" yeah..we were only joshing.... they can both play" ?

ITs just not going to happen.

The AFL have spoken. They dont want us around and successful - they are shitty we boned out of Etihad, shitty we have our own stadium, shitty their version of financial equlisation has not killed us with their crap amounts we had to pay, shiity we are a destination club still, shitty we are successful still and thereabouts, and shitty we want our home games at our home stadium. Meanwhile, they pump 10s of millions into their plastic babies and cant get a win.

Be pissed by all means - but the club in the issue here.

And there's another good does of gastro for ya.

Good on ya Browny! One of the few commentators that talks sense these days.

"But Brown believes the league has overcorrected on the issue. “That is nothing more than a forceful push — that is a joke,” Brown said of Hawkins’ action on Fox Footy’s On The Couch.

“I know he’s got form and we can all get on our high horse and say, ‘He’s got to stop doing these sorts of actions,’ (but) it was a forceful push. That is ridiculous.

“I’ve lived up north and the game gets accused of being soft because we suspend players for these superficial actions.

“We are losing our way. I’m all for protecting the players and setting the right example for junior footballers ... but we are losing our way.”"

Thanks **** the NFL is getting going.

Give me a distraction from this arse fest of AFL acting.

Just quietly Daz, I've been disenfranchised since Joel got reported for pushing his brother years ago. Who would you recommend to follow in the NFL? What are your three fav teams? (Everyone has a second team, sometimes third).

Why not give clubs a limited number of challenges per season then or impose a cost to the club to challenge instead. If you believe a player is not guilty or has reasonable grounds to challenge then stuff the "oh but it costs us the AFL bla bla, we don't have enough resources etc" thats their problem. Maybe they should stop sighting minor incidents then.

Better still leave it to the umps to penalise the minor incidents with a free kick and work on fixing that instead.

But serious question - other than Papley talking on a Sunday footy show - what evidence can they introduce to suggest it was low rather than medium?

I get the whole thing is a farce made up by a dive and crap medical report - and im seething over it too - see the shit im spouting - but what can they show to prove low rather than medium - particularly in an environment that i predicated to guilt and appeal failure?

I dont see it but maybe ive missed something

Reality is prob the only way they could get it down to low was the opposition player/medical saying as much. But in doing so Papley and Sydney would have to admit to diving

or lying - and those events just dont happen.

This is the issue, its funny how the AFL seem to get what they want at times, at the moment they want:

Melbourne Contending.
Sydney and Buddy winning and all over the TV in NSW
GWS winning and all over the TV in NSW.
Essendon winning more games than they are losing.
Richmond playing in front of 60k week in week out at the MCG

Every decision is made about this. Geelong was supposed to be heading down the ladder now. But sadly the AFL did not look at the English Premier League model and realise that having your own ground is more profitable than playing at the MCG or Etihad, example of this working outside of Geelong are:

GWS in Canberra.
Western Bulldogs in Ballarat
Hawthorn in Launceston
North in Hobart

The Geelong Model works, its against what the AFL want and they are now punishing us for it.

Examples of the above are:

McVeigh 0 Weeks, Hawkins 1 and now 2.
Buddy 0 weeks, Duncan 1
Move heaven and earth to make sure Martin wasn't suspended, but hang Dangerfield out to dry.

I am as frustrated as the next person, but when the AFL have you in the gun, its hard to get out.

That idea was raised here a couple of days ago. I think it's a terrific idea. Maybe someone can get it up as a discussion point on SEN or ABC footy.

Too reasonable.

Out of the other ones Tommys done this was the softest one.
Duncan should not have been looked at.
MRP are on a witch hunt.

What's the bet anybody in yellow and black will be able to run riot on Sat whilst we're scrutinised over every little bump.

And that's before the MRP have their say.

May as well make it count boys...

I don't think I've ever seen everything go to shit so badly in a Geelong season in such a short amount of time. In two weeks we've gone from 'genuine contender' to 'absolutely no chance of getting anywhere near it.' Wow.

That is one of my fears about this. We are now a target. Richmond defenders will be scragging, niggling, punching etc from the moment the game starts because they know we will be under strict instruction not to defend ourselves. We also are apparently not allowed to tackle.
Still seething over the Danger one. Duty of care my ass. What about Blicavs being tackled from behind without the ball and having his legs wrapped up, resulting in a broken leg?? Where was Slaone's duty of care relative to the consequence off his action?

Players are unlikely to sue the AFL for a broken leg.

Fallout from repeated head injuries on the other hand....

Agree, though. You can't talk about adjudicating the outcomes and not look at Sloane.
