That period of dominance is significantly better than any team since. They finished on top for six years straight from 1955-1960, and were top 4 for eleven years straight.

If Big Footy was around then, the entire successful era would have been dismissed because of the inevitable "years of pain" that must follow (and in actuality, did - Dees missed the finals for 22 seasons from 1965-1986), because you were too busy getting the most out of your senior group instead of looking five years ahead and playing the kids.

A decade of dominance isn't enough. Would have been better off developing their youth for a shot at a real dynasty down the track, etc.

Obviously our list isn't as good as it was 2004-2011, we had a team with several once in a generation players.

What I like about our current list is people keep writing the team off, yet they finished second and just might upset a few teams who think they have it in the bag this year. I know they can be inconsistent sometimes, especially the bottom six players, but when they're on they can beat anyone. There's also been this weird obsession with Simond's Stadium this year like some people just realized it's our home ground.

IMO under performed. Should have a minimum of 4 Flags and certainly 5. It's a great effort in today's 18 team competition and compromised fixture, but somehow as good as their win/loss record is, they fall short by one Premiership. That will cop criticism, but look at that list from 2007 -2011. I count 2006 as the big lost opportunity. There are many factors, however the Geelong era has been great for old fans like myself so i'm not really bitching about it, but you must seize every opportunity when it comes around and be ruthless about it. Carlton and Hawthorn were simply more ruthless in their eras with teams that were probably not as good? Look at the Dogs, after 62 years of heartbreak they finally get off the leash, then within one year they are back in the kennel!

Seems a bit that way but at the same time we took down mighty opponents in 2009 and 2010 who were better than us in the regular season (Saints especially). All the great sides lose one or even some somewhere. Hawks lost unexpectedly to the Swans in '12 and had their fair share of GF defeats in the 80s also.

I would rather go through what the Cats have over the last decade than what Essendon did 1998-2002, could have easily taken three flags with the side they had and only walked away with one. Similar with St Kilda 2008-2011 who had nothing to show from it.
