Society/Culture Why is the Hammer and Sickle so accepted in society?

I was watching channel 7 the other day and noticed that they were promoting a Russian couple who are going to be on their cooking show. To promote the fact they were Russian channel 7 used the hammer and sickle image as a backdrop to them.

How is this acceptable to display the logo/flag of a tyrannical regime that killed millions? Could you imagine the outpour of disgust if a German couple were on the show and the Nazi flag was used?

The hammer and sickle is also a very common image at far-left protests and demonstrations, yet it doesn't seem to cause any concern or outrage? Are people simply not aware that this was the symbol of Stalin and co?

In the seventies, It was common to dress as nazis, as camp as you could make it. An object of derision

Ask prince harry how that went.

BTW do you think Russian people would cringe at that too, their culture has brought so much more to the world

I went to school in the 80s, half the subjects managed to work in the evils of the red menace somehow. I had an economics teacher who used to be an advisor to Doug Anthony, all he did was hang s**t on everything to the left of Friedman.

Amazing that even though we could ignore all that s**t altogether in Oz, some feel compelled to resurrect it

All the Banksters & the multi-Nationals fear Socialism & Communism like the plague.....That is why they have always promoted such a vehement disparagement & hatred for it, via the media & our education system....Because it represents the biggest threat to their rule, their kingdom & their power, through the principle of usury. By which they have duped most of the planet with.

The underlying moral ethos of fundamental existential equality is a noble one, that flies in the face of the thieves, the criminals & the robber-Barons.

Capitalism is founded upon a psycho-pathology of power, greed, theft, usury & enslavement....Of an inequality of man & a flagrant ignoring of human rights.

Yet in Russia $427 billion was swindled from the Russian people between 2000 and 2008.

Really?.....Has Russia been either Socialist or founded upon Communist principles since 1990?....So your point is?

They're all awful. 45M+ died in China, their own records indicate many of those millions were murdered, not merely whoops we thought carrots could be planted right next to each other because they are the same class and therefore won't compete :drunk:
Stalin and Mao's great crimes were the gulag, purges and betrayal of all the early left who bravely fought to put them in power. Awful as they are, the problem is that doesn't make the raw numbers as sexy to people who want to bash Communism with a big stick.

LOL.

Oh yeah....I'm going to learn much about human nature & natural Law via an economics forum.....Dear Oh.

Economists like to imagine that the existential foundations for how a society should function is all founded upon the almighty $$$$.....Here's a wee hint.....It isn't!

Monetary policy is all about serving man.....Not setting the agenda for how we live, or what is right/wrong.

Economists like to imagine that their discipline supplies for the foundations upon which human societies are founded & are run!.....Unfortunately, today's fiat banking system provides for this delusion that money is the be all & end all.....It is merely a tool of exchange agreed upon by society.

You have $$$$ mixed up with ethics dear fellow.

I'm starting to think you are bigfooty's puppet man, similar to Milo.

I am the most intelligent poster on bigfooty who other posters always look to for guidance and I would of ended up being rich even if I had poor parents .

Me and Donald Trump have lots in common .

An intelligent poster would understand that the subjective form of the first person pronoun is I, not me.

"Would of"! You crack me up.

Good OP.

I think it's down to political correctness and education. We all know the Nazis were bad and they killed Jews.

Deaths of non Jews in gas chambers get less of a mention.
The starving of Ukranians, and the massacre of Poles at Katyn, by the Soviets get barley any mention.
Most people would have NFI about how badly the Japanese army behaved in the 20th century.

The Hammer and Sickle is a pretty repugnant excuse for a cultural symbol on a cooking show. I don't blame the producers/creative team, they are just uneducated. The collective ignorance of society is to blame.

There's been some pretty horrific acts carried out by people flying a Union Jack. Is that an appropriate symbol to be on our flag?

Big difference. Just like the German flag and Russian flags represent their people, so does the Union Jack.

The Swastika and Hammer and Sickle represent specific tyrannical regimes that we have rightly divorced from the good people of those countries.

A straw man I'd expect for some of the loony right wing types.

But to answer your question, it is beyond time that it was removed from our flag.

If Nazi Germany had won, they would have "rightfully' liberated the brits from their tyrranical regime
History written by the victors and all that

Was that high school Gough? I went to high school in the late 90s and most history focus was on Aboriginal and WW2 Germany.

You aren't allowed to make comments desecrating Meds sex dream partners in Boris and Nigel. If you do, you have an arts degree. Literally his only comeback. It's either that or he leaves the thread because he's wrong and can't admit it.
I’ve got an engineering degree so meds is fine by me :p

Really? I'll admit I know little of their plans for Britain, but they basically wanted to give all the land in Eastern Europe to Aryians and have the original owners work the land for them.

I thought they were happy to leave Britain out of it to begin with?
