“Mr Grech said police told him Melbourne supporters sitting nearby, who he was initially unaware of given his Collingwood seats, had reported him for his barracking.”

Fair enough, he was disrupting their peaceful cheese platters.

That doesn't surprise me.Some Melbourne supporter called the police over a few times at the prelim v Eagles at Optus last year .The Police thought they had done a good job of humouring him and explaining there was no problem I believe. But at half time near a take away drinks stand I saw a police get another call.He did not seem to be impressed and might have shook his head and rolled his eyes possibly.

Ok - I'll play devils advocate here. Has anyone ever sat at the footy with a really loud supporter yelling in your here ?

I had one a few weeks ago - a fellow Carlton supporter mind you - and the guy was a complete d$%head yelling non-stop rubbish thinking he was funny.

We had to move.

There is a line that can be crossed !!

We had to move.

See, there is a solution!

People need to HTFU. Most of my footy attendances are at the BOOOOOOOO Optus Oval here in BOOOOOOOOO Perth. Try being a Vic team BOOOOOOO supporter over here. Im not.... popular.

Could be worse I guess, could live in Adelaide. At least the crowds here dont throw bannanas at Aboriginal players.

This path the AFL is taking, is going to bite hard.

Either fans protest the way they are getting treated or it just becomes more dull at the footy.
God I hope it's a protest. Fans just keep turning up, and if you ask a selection of supporters at random if they enjoy the footy, my guess it would be a lot saying no. But they are still going..

I know my team is rubbish this year, and I'll admit that's added another layer to me not enjoying the footy. But I was quite disillusioned over summer at the prospect of all these new rule changes implemented, after a season that already had record memberships, attendances, one of the vest grand finals of all time, and a season where the top 8 wasn't even decided until the last round.

I've been an afl member and club member for a decade, last year I went to best part of 40 games live, and would watch close to a similar number at home on weekends. This year I've been to watch Melbourne 3 times, and have watched them on tv 3 times. I've probably watched at most another 10, 12 games on tv, and haven't been to any other team live- which I used to love.

But the afl don't care about supporters like me, or many others here on Bigfooty who follow passionately. They don't. They just know we will keep watching games on tv, keep buying our membership, keep going through the turnstiles.. They want to go into dreamworld Chinese markets, they want to prop up 2 clubs in highly populated areas where they will never convert the community to afl on a large scale.

Now they are targeting the very people who keep their coffers full, the likes of us Bigfooty posters etc, the ones who have supported teams our whole life, passionately and financially. I've heard some ordinary language at the footy, but you put 50,000 people together and you're guaranteed a few bad eggs in any society. Overall, supporters in australia are very tame and well mannered. But they are genuinely targeting the most passionate fans now. And they think we are fine with this. They think the most passionate fans and supporters are ok with it because- they keep turning up every week.

And they will keep fiddling with the rules, they will keep failing on umpire standards, they will continue to run this formerly great game down because people will continue to go.

This is what grates. Some of us average schmoes have helped keep our clubs alive, standing in a practically empty MCG with a crowd approaching Sheffield Shield levels while the AFL waited for us to die. Now these ****ing parasites feed off the largesse we generate.

This situation with this Collingwood supporter was ridiculous and clearly there has been a massive over correction...... but how is the game dying exactly?

The 6 games averaged over 43K on the weekend.

What the hell is a protest weekend anyway?
I think we just had one.

Isn’t it those weeks where the opposition let Carlton win?

I've had people give me a dirty look for whistling loudly (I'm a good whistler) so I feel his pain. AFL are trying to take the emotion out of the game to turn it into 100% business. You can show emotion but only in a reserved way...

If the cops spoke to him politely to make it known his supporting was commended but disturbing the peace, then left as that.......no issue anywhere other than a great story and 5 minutes of fame

I feel the same. Nothing inherently wrong with cheering loudly, but it's not much fun when it's right in your ear.

Quite literally the best thing as fans we can do is not show up to games, empty stadiums will change the AFL's tune.

The AFL wants a war with its fans its a war it will not win, ultimately we own the game not them.
AFL won't give a shit if some loud mouth Bogan doesn't go to the footy, they want to replace those types with mum, dad and their 2.5 kids. 4 > 1
